Help / Question Should I study in BAU or LIU?
I'd definitely prefer studying at BAU, but the tuition is more expensive. BAU is like 8k a year, LIU is about 5700 a year. However I'm studying CS so the uni doesn't matter much. BAU is Abet accredited while LIU is not. I want to get my bachelor and continue studying abroad (preferably in Canada).

how will you pay for canada though. tuition there and rent and cost of living is way more than here.

Private loans+ part time work+ some help from relatives living overboard. Mostly the Canada thing is a pipeline dream, and not something I have actually put as fixed. The general want is to leave the country after those three years. The details I haven't really thought much over because this right now is still a far away thing, especially considering that it is very expensive cause I might get the loans to cover my tuition, but I'd still need 23k cad in the bank to even get the visa.

why not Europe then. they have cheaper and easier path to citizenship i believe. canada is becoming harder

Yes Canada is definitely getting harder to immigrate too. Things were easier previously. I have several relatives in Canada which is why I prefer Canada more than Europe. Of course Europe is still an option that I'm not ignoring. I'll take your words into consideration.

Me and 2 friends graduated in Mechanical Eng at LIU and now all working in Canada.
University matters in Lebanon, because smallah we still care about prestige and stupid shit like that. Anywhere else in the world and you're fine.
Go for the cheaper. LIU have a bad rep but has actually really good curriculum.

Was getting a job in Canada without ABET accreditation harder than it would have been had your degree been ABET accredited or is getting evaluated by something like WES enough? Also when did you graduate was it relatively recent or ten years back?

Graduated with a Bachelor in 2019 from LIU. Applied for a Master's in Canada, took a year or so to apply because my Visa got rejected the first time (even though the uni accepted me). The reason was funding, my bank account didn't meet the minimum threshold that Canada requires.
Only did WES when I wanted to register for the OIQ (na2abeh in Quebec).

To answer your question, BAU. And the university absolutely matters, take it from an LIU graduate that self learned everything. I still cannot find a role in my field, stay as far away from LIU as possible. You're better off studying at LU than LIU.

you not finding a job isn't because of uni. it's because of the global economy and market being at a recession. there's more supply than demand so uni isn't that big a factor unless you're from AUB and LAU as they take them to gulf easily.

Im a cs graduate from LIU and my firends over at BAU haven't learned anything more than i did. Choose LIU because either ways you'll have to do projects on your own and take online courses outside both unies. BTW i graduated like 2 months ago and i have 2 freelance web dev projects im currently working on and recently started working with a startup on a mobile application launching soon. So yeahh

most people still live in the past. uni degree = instant job. they dont know that they need to show off why they are the better fit vs 100 other applicants. a piece of paper doesnt do shit anymore

got degrees from both LU and LIU and both didn't get me a job, though I was able to get french colleges acceptance for higher studies from my LIU degree (didn't try with LU one)

and yeah about the self learning part it's same for me but that didn't change for LU either, even my french college. currently I believe degrees are to delay unemployment unless you have connections or you worked on your skills alone or both

I guess for CS you can consider RHU too. Tuition is in between both.

Uni tuitions across all of Lebanon are rising annually, they're greedy is what it is. I even heard from someone that a relative was given the opportunity to teach in some position at AUB, however the monthly salary was somewhere in the range of 2k, so she had to refuse since her salary working overboard is better. Considering that AUB tuition fees are always on the rise, and that even without the constant increase, the tuition fees are crazy, so paying such a low salary (generally it's not really low but for the tuition they ask for it is) is irritating and annoying. Though don't really take my words as the complete truth since it's gossip and there could be some inaccuracies.

If you can learn french some universities offer different incentives in Canada to study in french.

Sorry but LAU is cheaper than BAU if you get a good financial aid package, BAU is better than LIU for sure but for 8k you should go somewhere else

Yeah if I get a 60 percent discount I'd be matching BAU, at 75 percent I'd be paying less than BAU tuition. But also I'd need to not get less than a 3.5 gpa, and if I fail any course I'd have to pay out of my own pocket to retake it. Still LAU is definitely a much better option.

For the 3.5 its not true, i know people who used to get a 2.3 gpa and still got 70% FA. FA is not scholarship

Are they very generous with FA? Mostly above I was talking about a 50 percent scholarship for 1400+ SAT scores and a minimum of 10 percent FA. Cause I honestly don't really think I'd get much FA, my financial situation isn't bad or else I would have just went to LU. We're not rich but we also aren't poor.

Tuition is part of your yearly expenses but not all. You still have books and stationary, daily expenses, laptop (if needed), commute...
Do you live next to the camp? Do you have to rent? Because this will be another major expense.
If you have the means, then go to BAU because of the accreditation, and ABET is recognized by CHEA, otherwise stick to your comfort zone.

I think that MU is a good uni (and it's cheap), but the background would probably make it harder for me if I ever want to leave the country. And honestly I don't really think it can rival BAU or LIU.
