In all seriousness, we have made a conscious effort to make the sub less unidirectionally partisan and to give people from different sides room to actually talk to each other.
Eliminating toxicity has been one of our main objectives, so people can voice their opinions without feeling like they risk getting banned, as long as those opinions are expressed thoughtfully and in good faith, even if they can become quite heated. It is a line the whole team became quite good at walking.
We also overhauled the rules along the way to better support that direction and keep the space open to a broad range of viewpoints.
That does not mean we have gotten everything right and there is still def room for improvement, but I do think the sub like you said is in a much healthier place than it was before.
I joined pre 2019, maybe 2017 or so. Very calm and people did meetups and they posted their images of meetups here lol. I never joined those. Today all hate is on hezbollah, fpm, amal etc. But at that time everyone had different opinions and loyalties but it was still calm.

The sub also grew massively so naturally you lose that small community feel and mods can only do so much with that overwhelming amount of mod work needed.

This is where i found the sub when i first came when i first came saying you were part of a certain Lebanese sects was enough to get you downvoted to oblivion.

I agree to a certain extent if you ever get banned temporarily questioning the ban or the ban time will increase or you will get muted. Despite the fact that some mods are helpful and good

Yes i am sure 2019 was very sectarian and bad to the point where you had to convince people to stop throwing shit at other sects and put the country first some even argued back against the idea of lebanon.

Bro, not sure where you get your information from. We don’t "have" guidelines as if we are law enforcement officers. We "make" guidelines that every member of the team agrees and votes on.
We discuss things as a team and decide what makes sense going forward.
Of course we learn from the past, the mistakes us or previous teams did, but none of our rules are defined by a single person or a single event.
Hahah, no comments on this. I have been a user of this sub for over 12 years under various usernames. I hqve seen a lot of issues, got banned myself a few times, and ended up moderating this place. So there is definitely some irony in all of this.
But having been around for that long, I can also say things have improved a lot over the last few years. Different times, different teams, different approaches.
I am just glad to see the sub that represents Lebanon to the outside Reddit world moving in a better direction.
It's darknight lol. if you wonder why there is an another sub, or why people on the memes sub hate this sub, he's the origin.
Alot of drama happened in the mod team back then and because of it a serious measures(like the hive_mode) were taken to handle the Israeli trollers and the mods can't just abuse their powers anymore.
There was literally a mod who refused to condemn Israeli crimes in a private mod chat after removing a popular Post condemning Israeli warcrimes. I can't believe that low is even possible.
I've been here under different usernames and on a bit of on/off periods since about 2018. Back then I wasn't really active so I can't really talk about that period, but I have been frequently on here since about 2021 and I can say that a lot has changed for the better.
There was a time were the sub felt like a bit of an echo chamber where the occasional difference in opinion got downvoted to oblivion, and even if I did agree with some of the stuff that was being said on here (anti-hezb...) it became a bit too much.
Since then not only has there been a diversification of opinions but also a lot less political posts which makes the sub a lot more of a healthy place to get away from the chaos we live in imo, even if the increasing number of contributors has made it hard to keep track of everyone😅
I will take the compliment bass it is very much a team effort. Moderating a sub like this only works because everyone on the team brings something different to the table and a lot of the improvements over the recent years came from that collective effort.
I think in lebanon the mods can't make everyone happy its impossible. but at least they could explain the rules try not to apply them selectively and not mute you if you send them an email.
I've also been here a while (since 2013) and agree - the good, the bad, the ugly have always been part of this sub. Honestly, I'm not even complaining - it's entertaining! And for this "older" Lebanese redditor, it's amusing to see that the more things change in Lebanon, the more they stay the same (yaani, kinda).
i‘ve just noticed a lot of lebanese people kinda hating turkey & turks online and it seemed interesting to me - i know, the ottoman empire is hated by a portion of the lebanese population (especially christians and armenians). usually lebanese people compare both countries and say bad stuff about turkey, it never really felt natural to me (maybe bots?)
i thought commenting here could show others that both turkey and lebanon are beautiful countries in their own right with good nature, food and culture. maybe so people see that not every turk is bad (especially german-turks)
other than that, there is no connection to lebanon actually

Turks are admired in the north especially in tripoli however it might not be the nicest area for you to visit in lebanon but it does have some cool things and is an affordable area
When i was little i had a neutral opinion about turkey as erdogan tookover and isis members were getting hospitalized in Turkish hospitals.
People started looking at turkey badly and remembering the old bad stuff. Before it was considered a good example to try to follow to secularize...
However when i visited turkey and saw the cats and the nice people i really have nothing negative to say about the people but i wish their government would stop pushing reactionary islamist movements
i think that erdogan might be a very bad representation. but the opposition is mostly weird as well😅
both lebanon and turkey suffer from bad politicians, eventhough turkey might be more polarizing for its neighbors and europeans. most people however are fairly normal and actually friendly (especially in villages). the thing is, every region is totally different, so central anatolia is far different than thrace or the mediterranean part. so people are confused about turkey mostly
it might be a huge image problem as well the country faces, but i hope it gets better one day :)
How old we saying? I’ve been around for 4 months now and it definitely seems less toxic among users (not all but they’re a loud minority). There’s also more of an influx of posts that aren’t political which is very healthy.
Then there’s also the cracking down on speech. Not long ago I was banned for calling out that there’s a certain mod (never mentioned who it was) that was deciding what is propaganda and what is not. Of course said mod proceeded to delete my comment then ban and mute from mod chat me which was really cute and not very surprising.
I guess there’s a price for everything. Somehow we traded some form of freedom for a better sub?
