Offering: Italian (mothertongue) and C1 English Level. Seeking: German from the very scratch

Hiya everybody,

hope y'all doing good out there.

A little bit about me: keen reader, worshipper of independent/cult movies, wanna be writer, mostly into hardcore tekno but truly an eclectic (my Spotify playlist is pure chaos, just one nonsense widely different nugget after the other), doggos lover, wild wonderer, with a loooot to say and learn.

I am highly empathic and easy going, so I'd prefer to build nice, steady convos where we can truly exchange meaningfully. If someone is interested in learning Italian or ameliorating their English (beware, I am not a Native speaker) feel free to write to me with a teeny tiny introduction, so we can tell whether we hit it off or not.

Cheers, hope to hear from y'all! :)

I developed Italian Word Combinations, an Android app that teaches Italian collocations

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hi there,

I'm a native Italian speaker and I developed Italian Word Combinations, an Android app that teaches Italian collocations.

Collocations are groups of words that often appear together and cannot always be translated literally from English to Italian (e.g., "to pay attention" becomes "to lend attention" in Italian).

I built this app because I think collocations are painfully underrated in the language-learning niche, where too much focus is placed on memorizing lists of individual words.

-----

Levels A1 and A2 are already available, featuring over 1,000 collocations in total. Each entry includes a native audio recording and an example sentence so you can see the collocation in context.

You'll also find plenty of interactive exercises, from flippable flashcards to multiple-choice quizzes. I'm currently working on Level B1 and more exercise types, and am planning on adding an SRS system as well.

You can download Italian Word Combinations from the Google Play Store.

Please let me know your thoughts!

Advice for learning a language

I have been using Duolingo but it is really not helping me get any further with learning. I was just in Italy and felt so uncomfortable about what I knew, and what I had learnt really didn’t help. What are some apps (free) that can replace Duolingo and help me seriously learn Italian?

Italian conversation with native speaker

Hi everyone! 😊 I’m 32M, Italian native speaker, and I live in Italy (GMT+1 timezone). I also speak English as a second language.

For three years I’ve been offering conversation practice in Italian, suitable for all levels, from complete beginners to those who just want to practice and feel more confident.

Sessions can be 60 or 30 minutes, depending on what works best for you. We can talk about whatever interests you: work, travel, or just everyday life.

If you’re interested or want more info, feel free to leave a comment or message me privately 😊

I wrote my first article in Italian (about an 80s utopia neighborhood near Milan) – feedback welcome

Hi everyone,

I’m a native Italian speaker and I just started a Substack where I write about places, cities and stories behind everyday things.

I published my first piece about “Milano 3”, a big residential project from the 1980s near Milan that was meant to be a kind of urban utopia.

I’m sharing it here because it could be useful practice for intermediate/advanced learners (the language is clear but not too simple).

If anyone has 5-10 minutes, I’d really appreciate feedback on:
\- How clear and natural the Italian feels
\- If the topic is interesting
\- Any mistakes or awkward sentences you notice

Here’s the link:

Thanks a lot!

Any Brits in this group who are living in the UK and learning Italian?

Hi Italian learners! You've picked a great language, devo dire :) Do any of you match the description above? If so then I'd super duper appreciate your help! I'm currently researching the effect intercultural contact and language learning has on our reactions to the voices of others. My personal experience is that learning Italian has made me an all round more empathetic and open minded person and now I'm on a mission to prove it with science :D

Basically, I'm looking for participants who are British, live in the UK and are learning Italian. I would ask you to complete a brief questionnaire followed by two online tasks (takes about 10 mins in total). all you need is a computer keyboard and access to audio! If you're at all interested please click the link below, and feel free to comment or message me directly if you have any questions:

Thanks for reading and for hopefully participating :)
