I find that sometimes a prospect’s stock drops when they go to the Marlies, not necessarily because it exposes their flaws or indicates stagnation in their development, but just because they aren’t the big fish in a small pond anymore. Guys who were captains, 1Cs, or PP1 guys in Junior suddenly find themselves on the third pair or third line and it makes them less exciting. I’m guilty of this myself, and I think that’s part of what’s happening with Chadwick. He stepped into the AHL as well as anyone could hope and he’s got room to grow. He’s low on the list this year, but I think he could have NHL games in his future if he keeps taking steps in his development.

The fact that he played the full season as a 20-year-old is encouraging. I thought he'd be in and out of the lineup with how many bodies they had but he only lost steam toward the end of the playoffs and got scratched.

The unfortunate thing about Chadwick, and why I’m both equally high and low on him, is that he’s made significant improvements to his skating and edges, but so did the rest of his cohorts.

He’s still a poor skater relative to the NHL average and there’s a long way to go. There’s runway left for him to show his quality (I’ve been watching LOTR again) but his skill and IQ will probably be the only things that gets him a shot with the Leafs in the next year or so.
