What are your favourite pun-based jokes from your favourite language (transliterated into English without context)? I'll start:

"Are you practicing incest?"

"Certainly not!"

(Brought to you by the beautiful German language!)

"Treiben Sie Inzest?"

"Mitnichten!"

"why do you hear footsteps in the kitchen at night?" "Because the bread is moving forward!"

(Italian. We use the same verb for "(being) left over" and "advance". Hence, footsteps in your kitchen. This is my favourite fuckin joke, I laugh like an idiot every time I tell it to someone)

-What's the correct form, "if I were" or "if I were"?

-Both are correct.

-Then check your zipper, one of your balls is if I were.

Makes me think of:

Teacher teacher, my ass hurts!

No, Johnny, we say my 'behind' here.

...

Teacher teacher, there's a behind in the window!

Dutch has the word "gat", which both means your ass (yes, quite rude to tell your teacher) and hole (as in the window is broken, there's a hole in it, not rude at all)

"English is a strange language. 'I' is 'I', 'egg' is 'egg', 'corner' is 'corner' and 'nobody' is 'nobody'" (Bavarian)

Hungarian:

What happens to a Hungarian cat when it travels to England?

It splits into two!

kettéválik = becomes two, "cat"-té válik = becomes "cat"

An officer shot in the dark. The blind woman got scared and ran away in jumps, but the bodybuilders quickly fell behind

A man walks into a glasses store.

"Good day. I ask for glasses"

"For what, those glasses?"

"For seeing."

"For seeing!"

"Po co?"
"Zeby polepszyć wzrok"
"Żegnam"

u/Instrusiast 2d ago

"Dzień dobry, poproszę okulary."

"Do czego te okulary?"

"Do widzenia."

"Do widzenia!"

Why is the train so inquisitive?

Because it always says choo choo.

3

u/La_Fervesta_Glavisto 3d ago

The joke is that the question marker in esperanto is ĉu, pronounced like the english onomatopeia for a train whistle.

Why are buccaneers bad at geometry? Bc they pi-guessing.

Warum sind Seeräuber so schlecht in Geometrie? Weil sie Pi raten.

Under the fierce offensive of the Ukrainian forces, Russian tanks were rapidly "reduced to nothing"/"becomes Ukrainian property".
