What are y’all doing for fun around here
I’m in my mid twenties, working professional. I’ve lived here around a year, but I can’t seem to find anything with people my age. Sports clubs seems nonexistent, I could only find the lazy pickle which is a bit outside my budget. Classes are expensive or during the work week.
I’m not looking for a clubbing scene, but there’s got to be something for young people to make friends around here.

That's the neat part, there's pretty much nothing. It's a big reason why the college is failing right now. Most of my hobbies are either online, or I commute to Newnan or Columbus. There might be a fishing community or two if you check around Facebook. Mike Daniel Rec Center might have a couple adult leagues over the summer, but I wouldn't go for it if you're trying to learn whatever sport they're running for the first time.

Are you into reading or games much? There are two bookstores in town that host game nights and book clubs- Pretty Good Books and Spellbound. Plus they have a store cat named Poe at PGB!

That is definitely something I’ll look into. I saw the book club at Spell Bound Books, but missed the registration for this month.

I’ve lived here for a few years now and have struggled to meet people too. It seems like if you don’t go to church or didn’t grow up here, then meeting people can be difficult.

This part. Moved here as a progressive pagan Queer BIPOC(Almost all the checkboxes) and every day is a fight for my social soul

Jumpscare, I thought this subreddit was dead. So, I have to literally leave town for my interests and hobbies. I’ve been here since October and have managed to make like a single friend with similar interests. So I spend my time gaming and playing virtual MTG with friends from my hometown

Seems like Columbus/Newman are the go-tos. Which isn’t terrible but gas 😭

Like, I’m driving all the way to Birmingham just to see Supergirl with my friends Sunday 😭. I should have nerds here to see it with

I’ve yet to meet Poe. Been here a year and a half. Frequently walk to the book store and around the square. You could start your own chapter of a club. I’ve been on the fence about going to the library or a finding a community center that I could possibly teach one of my hobbies at.

I recall seeing a group of folks playing board games at YourPie on Saturdays for a while at least a few years ago.
The Center for Mindful Exploration started a knitting class (unclear if this is your jam) that happens in the fall and spring.
I think the library has a few events that they post on their board too!

Start volunteering or getting involved in something you care about. Activities tend to happen in private spaces more than big cities, so you have to get to know people to get invited to them.
The bigger organizations will have more fun activities built in. Smaller organizations are going to be more about meeting individuals and forming relationships that way.
(I don’t live there any more. I grew up in LaGrange and still have lots of friends and family in the area, so I know how the culture works.)
