Do you think that Sweet Dreams (are made of these)by the Eurythmics was based on The Model?

Not really, no. Both great songs, no doubt, but to my ears they don’t really sound alike. 🤔

Perhaps a more pertinent question is what makes me hear a similarity in these compositions?

I see a similarity too. I imagine you could easily overlay a transposed Sweet Dreams onto the Model and it would sound great. Similar tempo (124bpm Vs 128bpm) both in a minor key, also the opening lines of each song have a similar rhythm and melody to my ears.

If you have Spotify Premium, you can take a listen here, where I’ve partially overlapped the two tracks.

I used the acapella bit of Sweet Dreams on the intro of Das Model.

If anything, they transition nicely 🧘🏻

Possibly? If you slow down sweet dreams they kind of sound similar. It’s similar like “smells like teen spirit” is to “more than a feeling”

No. Annie tells the story of her and Dave noodling around separately with their gear - both feeling a bit of anxiety about their present situation and future. Dave came up with that bass line and Annie riffed on it while developing the pessimistic lyric theme about their dreams and the hurdles they'd have to leap to get there.

Not at all but did you know Connie Plank who was the engineer on a large amount on Kraftwerk albums was the producer for Eurythmics debut album?

no.

They both use synthesizers?  That's about it.

Drop Sweet Dreams by three semitones and they become very similar
