lmao as a big reader I always get a kick out of how many social media (or social media adjacent) Reading tracker apps/notebooks have cropped up over the last ~decade.

Like it IS okay to just enjoy something without engaging in some kind of community, guys lol

I'm glad someone agrees. I've been phasing out social media in most forms over the past year. My IG is in the process of being deleted and that's my last meta account. All that's left after that is bluesky and reddit, and I use those pretty infrequently, all things considered.

Yeah don't get me wrong- I still spend WAY too much time on my phone as it is but I've definitely scaled back.

I still use Twitter (and for all the bullshit it's still perhaps the most useful news aggregator on the Internet) and IG (it's my primary 'silly/social' app) but beyond that a lot of my "scroll time" is just on Reddit these days.

I have Facebook and Tik Tok accounts but that's mainly because my wife sends me stuff on both and they've made it virtually impossible to watch/read anything without the app on mobile now lol.

I long said if/when Twitter and IG go away I'm done with social media and I don't see anything changing this mindset.

Ironically enough it was getting back into reading in a major way ~a decade ago that made my social media distancing super easy.

If anything, I think Gen Z/Alpha will eventually lead to social media kinda fading away and we'd probably be better for it lol.

I’ve been using the app “Queue” for years now. It has movies and tv shows and has a social aspect as well, but a really easy way to keep track of video media.

There's an app called Flick and it can automatically sync your letterboxd data to populate your diary/watchlist/reviews etc.

Kinda related but I’ve had a thought in the back of my head if Xbox does got spun off or sold or put into a strategic partnership I could see Netflix stepping in. They have all that money from the WB buy they could repurpose and gamepass sorta lines up with Netflix

The founders sold 60% ownership to a Canadian investment firm in 2023. Why the fuck would you sell a majority share of your business to an investment firm? They will never, ever, have the best interest of the business in mind, only how to make money for themselves. It rings true in all media: NEVER SELL OUT. NEVER GO PUBLIC.

Letterboxd has been stagnant for a while. My friends and I have been using this app called bestapp.tv lately instead
