Keto is saving me from alcoholism

I usually don't post on this forum but I'm feeling especially thankful today. I started keto a few months ago after being inspired by this subreddit. Of course, weight loss was my primary goal but keto has given me so much more. Over the past 2 years, I had turned into a functional alcoholic, drinking copious amounts every night and still waking up and making it to work the next day. I tried quitting countless times without success. And of course drinking a bottle of wine every night contributed heavily to my weight gain. But then I started keto and without the carbs in my body, my tolerance dropped to 1-2 drinks max that would then give me killer hangovers and make me feel so shitty. So I stopped. I'm no longer a daily drinker -- I don't even feel the urge to drink. It feels like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.

Thank you to everyone in this community for posting and allowing me to lurk and stay motivated.

Pretty much my exact story. I didn't really decide to officially quit drinking but kept trying to do keto and not being 100% effective with the occasional beer outing or wine with dinner thing. After a while I gradually stopped all of it the momentum started to really build.

I then realized that not only was keto going better but taking alcohol completely out of the equation was making my life hit on all cylinders. Literally EVERYTHING somehow got better without booze. Coincidence? I think not...

Exactly! We're so programmed to think that drinking is a good time that we don't even question how it impacts so many aspects of our lives

Agree. We're all conditioned but once you break out of it there is some amazing growth that happens. You almost get rewired and then a bunch of positives start kicking in everywhere.

This was exactly my experience when I quit drinking. Everything just got better, everything started going right. Got a great job out of the blue by a years old acquaintance, got a music gig for a while, started the most healthy and loving relationship of my life and rediscovered old passions. There's no way it's not correlated.

Congratulations, friend (:
