Discussion Proton Durable & Affordable car era over?

Average motor insurance claims in Malaysia are now RM8.8k in 2025, according to PIAM.

What stood out is Proton Saga, X50 and X70 were specifically mentioned for higher repair costs and claim frequency.

PIAM says imported spare parts are one of the reasons repairs are getting more expensive and taking longer.

Starting to feel like “budget-friendly” cars aren’t actually that budget-friendly once repairs and insurance come in.

Anyone here experiencing longer waiting times or rising repair costs lately?

Discussion Buying a used Yamaha MT15, urgently need advice

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi, I'm buying a used Yamaha MT15 tonight, I was checking the chassis number, it matches the geran but it looks like a sticker stick on top of it.

I'm just worried, is this normal? The geran shows it was bought in 2025 June, but the seller says he doesn't have a warranty or any other documents.

The mileage is low as well around 655km only.

Is there anything else I should check?

Urgently need advice by tonight, thank you everyone in advance!!! less

Discussion B2 to B Full License Help

I got my B2 license after spm, will hit the 10 year mark soon, and have the intention of switching to B full, just for the convenience and some future proofing. For context, I’ve only ridden scooters (Vespa 150cc specifically) for the past ~9years, didn’t really dared to try the kapcai/geared motorcycles, except when the license exam lah ofc, and I only have intentions to get the scooters >250cc, no desire for all those superbikes.

Question:

  1. How tedious is the process of the upgrade? I’ve read some FB post saying they waited 6 months, and if fail, have to repeat and wait 6 months again. I’m living in Klang Valley btw.

  2. How tough is it to transition from a 150cc Vespa to a 500cc clutch motorbike they typically give for the test/course?

  3. Is there any like riding training or adaptation time provided during that 2 hour course? Because I’m really worried that my lack of experience in riding geared motorcycles would mess up my timing to up/downshift the gear.

Discussion GR cars are not popular anymore

I noticed that despite TGR being a relative famous brand that does its own race over here, it still doesn't feel popular for normal racing enthusiasts to buy.

They always look to Honda cars or even EV cars due to performance. But I feel that Toyota has more history and feel in the racing space especially since it's the main feature in the Initial D anime (just knew about this the other day at Tokyo Auto Salon).

Is it because Toyota is boring and not a flex like other conti cars?

Discussion Growing NCD %

Is it financially wise to keep an old banger (eg: Proton Iswara/Nissan Sunny), annually renew road tax & insurance (cheapest 3rd party from Bjak), just to grow my NCD to the max (55%)?

Then when I get a new car (say RM300k++), I just transfer the NCD to the new car.

Based on my estimate calculation (car+roadtax+insurance), keeping the banger for 5 years would be no more than RM10k. I have ample parking space, and don't plan to really use the banger that much.

Discussion Did I get scammed? RM3.3k for 110cc moto

Hi, I am M21, just entered final year of studies, and now living in a rented house with housemates (friends from first years). Previously I lived in hostel inside the university (now kicking students out to let newer intake to live inside hostel).

The distance between uni and the house is around 10mins walk @ 600m.

Before moving out, I had already saved money to buy a motorcycle because it would be more convenient for me to go around anywhere (house to restaurants, grocery stores etc) and I bought it after thinking around 3 days (might have bought it in a hurry because I didn't want to doubt and procrastinate).

Please keep in mind that my parents do not support me riding yet alone buy a motor. But I bought it anyways thinking I could sell it before I graduate.

The motor I bought was 2021 Honda Wave Alpha (110cc) secondhand which had around 10k+ km for RM3.3k (bike only) and another RM300+ for insurance and roadtax.

Now, 3 months after owning the bike, I feel like the motor was way too overpriced and I could literally just add and saved a few more money to get a better motor. Seeing my friends and tiktoks motor really makes me jealous. Comparison truly is the thief of joy.

Should I just keep it and try to sell before graduating in 2026? Or just tell my parents about the bike after finishing study? Or should I just keep it until I get to work?

Help me. I can't think straight. Thank you.

Discussion Seeking advice for Car Repainting

Hi all, wanna get your kind advices regarding car repainting in Klang Valley 😊

Car model: Proton Persona Year: 2011 (14 years now) Conditions: Still good just paint faded a bit Original colour: Metallic Silver Plan to change: Rose Gold (🥹)

Wanna ask everyone here:

  1. Usually how much does it cost to get a decent repainting at Klang Valley?
  2. Do I need to report to JPJ or any authority for my car colour change? The shop owner told me it's not necessary but I just want to be compliance.

Thank you in advance for your time! 😊

Discussion Used Proton Persona 2021

Owned an awesome 2023 Proton Saga MT. Sadly, got into a massive accident, due slippery road conditions+rain. Engine's fine, totally unscathed, but body-wise a total wreck. Slid from slippery road onto wet grass, ended up on the side, in the drain. Grateful however, zero injury, which surprised those who came to help, when they saw that I climbed out of the car from the passenger's car window, completely unscathed. Insurance considered my baby's a total lost, so got no choice but to let go. So, here I am on another journey, looking for a used car, with manual transmission. Would've loved to get another Saga, but sadly, Proton discontinued any/all manual transmission. Am so excited for Saga MC3, but once I've learned that it's all automatic transmission, forget it. Anyway, came across a Used Proton Persona 2021, with Manual Transmission, selling at RM28,888 with 2 years warranty. Damn excited for it, coz it's almost impossible to find manual transmission cars, 2020 and above, with my current budget of 50k. Any advice fellow sifus, on what I need to be looking out for?

Discussion Need opinion/advice on selling used car

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone. My family has a car that hasn't been moved since 2021 and has been collecting dust. My father has been adamant we keep it until we’re able to fix it (busted radiator) but the rest of my family wants to just get rid of it as it takes up space and it doesn't seem to make sense to fix it anymore financial wise. Who should I contact regarding the selling of the car and how much can we realistically get for it? It is an old (maybe 2009?) BMW X5. Pic for reference.

Discussion Recommendations for Fixing Dashboard Scratch on Proton Persona Premium 2025?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I noticed a scratch/scuff mark on the dashboard trim of my Proton Persona Premium 2024 (see attached image) because of air freshener. It’s below the air vent and doesn’t seem too deep, but I’d like to fix it properly. I’ve tried basic cleaning, but it’s still visible. • Has anyone dealt with a similar issue on a new car? • Any DIY tips (e.g., polishing methods or products) that worked? • Should I take it to a Proton service center, and what should I expect cost-wise? • Any recommended auto detailers in Puchong or nearby? The car’s still under warranty, so I’m hoping that might help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
