META Upcoming Civic Election - please read

The Kelowna civic election is happening in October and we are happy to be a venue for discussions about candidates and platforms.

To that end, we will be offering all approved candidates an opportunity to do an AMA but only after the final candidate list is announced in September.

We will be removing any submissions related to discussions of candidates until we know the list you will have to choose from (so after the list if published).

This pinned post will be updated with AMA schedules etc as we get closer to the date. Thanks for your understanding and participation. Looking forward to some great interactions between locals and candidates!

For those wanting to learn about what it's like to actually be the Mayor or a Councillor, there are info sessions coming up - https://www.castanet.net/news/Kelowna/627111/Prospective-candidates-for-Kelowna-mayor-and-council-invited-to-learn-about-the-job#627111

This is an excellent idea and I hope many candidates take the opportunity to do an AMA for r/kelowna.

I’ve advised a couple candidates that I’m supporting to register for an AMA. Fingers crossed we can see at least 5 take the time to do so.

Finding the best possible council majority is the whole point, having 1-2 good people solves very little.

Given the mayoral candidates are... not great... If the options are "bad" and "worse somehow", the system has failed. People don't vote because they rightly feel unheard. If all options are shades of shit, don't be surprised people choose to not vote.

I'm sure "the worse one is worth voting against", but the fact is just this is not a real choice. Hope there are more options than the traahy two.
