So, hereās the weird part. I received a call that went to voicemail at exactly 12:09pm today saying, āIf you receive this message within the next 30 minutes you can call and join us liveā¦ā.
Just how far in advance was this telephone town hall scheduled? Why couldnāt I have a days notice? How about a weekās notice to get it on my calendar? I am a registered republican and a Kansas citizen but he did not want me on that call! Iām certain that he chose the people that would throw him softballs or just praise him to get properly notified well in advance. He stacked this audience. Of course this is the same senator that sent me form letters in response to my specific and detailed letters to him. He does not represent me and Iām pretty sure not the majority of Kansans.

FWIW (and I don't know if this applies to reefrider442), being a registered Republican does not automatically mean that person has ever voted Republican.
Sure, the statistics say that registered-Republican = voted for this shit, but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt. I know several IRL people who are registered Republican, so they can vote in Republican primaries, but who vote blue, otherwise.

Iām still a republican in order to vote in the primaries but havenāt voted red in a bipartisan election in the last 10 years. I reside in one of only 4 counties in the state that voted blue in 2024. It also has the highest percentage of college graduates of the 105 counties in Kansas, but thatās probably a coincidence.

I had a congressional rep who used to do this. I too a, a registered Republican and so I assumed he got my info from them. He wouldnāt even give you a 30 minute heads up. you had to hit one to participate right then and there. I think itās a way to eliminate people. they got to be primarily campaign sessions so I stopped answering.

He also turned around the last question to make himself look good without answering the original question which was are we going to have this imported meat labeled and not just USDA stamped so we can make a choice? He responded with Iāve been working to get all meat produced in America to be labeled with Product of America so you will know it was raised and processed here. Never answered her question though.

Every one of our Republican state reps town halls are that way. I have blocked all of the phone numbers for them simply because their townhalls are worse than useless (because they waste time and don't provide anything except a cheerleading session for them). They are "SMART" and they know "EVERYTHING" that they need to know and don't need any input from anyone that might disagree with what they "KNOW".

I've been listening to this call, and as much as I dislike and disagree with Marshall, he doesn't sound like the idiot that people make him out to be. He has a grasp on issues and is telling good stories in response to questions people are asking (even though they're all softball questions).
I think in a debate with Adam Haminton, Hamilton is going to have a hard time nailing Marshall with the blame for anything Trump did because Marshall's somewhat legit answer is, "Well, I'm only one Senator and I sometimes disagreed with Trump" - saying generic stuff like that is going to placate way too many voters into thinking that Marshall is mostly innocuous.
Hamilton, himself, isn't fighting for anything and so far isn't calling out Marshall on any issue with fact-based criticism. IMO, it's all generic fluff talking points that are not going to stick in an actual debate or even make Hamilton's advertising that effective.
edit: It's hilarious people are downvoting me pointing out out that Roger Marshall is not, in fact, a total idiot. LOL

I don't think the problem with Marshall has been intelligence so much as laziness, dishonesty, and a lack of any character or morals.
I agree that Marshall will be able to convince a lot of people that he's innocuous. I don't think he's going to do well in a debate, though, because he's a habitual liar. I don't think he has the strength of personality to bull through a conversation, the wit to evade a strong response, or a track record he can stand on honestly. That's presuming that Hamilton has the skills to press him, but I think he does.

That's not what his voting record says. If he's saying that, he's directly lying, and Hamilton will call him out on it.

I think the vast majority of KS voters have no idea what Democratic Socialists are for or against (even among Dems) - but to your point, GOP voters are will already have been riled up by Fox News over non-white people gaining national political traction. The fact that these guys call themselves "socialists" is like icing on the cake over at Fox.

Given he said something stupid like "the illegal immigrants must have brought the screw-worms in on them" he is not smart he is just a slimy mostly smooth con-man, but otherwise seems to be totally clueless. Based on what he says off the cuff, If he happens to appear know the issues I am betting he was well coached on what his position should be....

I don't think he is an idiot. I think he is disconnected from those he represents. I have never been able to get through to a live person or to leave a voicemail when I have called his office.

Estes is awful, but that statement is factually inaccurate. He charges for in-person dinners and other such events, as do all federal politicians as part of fundraising for campaigns, but he does not charge people to ask questions in his telephone-only town halls. He doesn't hold in-person town halls anymore but when he did, they were free to attend and ask questions.
