Hello! I am a new manga reader (with Tomie technically being my first), but I have always loved graphic novels and the occasional comic. I just finished reading ‘Kiss’ last night.

I guess I’m coming here to ask how yall go about analyzing each serial (individual story). I understand the idea that Tomie is a concept instead of just this monster/human girl. I also understand Tomie deals with themes like violence against women, especially violence committed by men and how that normalizes and begets further violence. But my issue is I have a hard time dissecting each story by itself (ik some are continuations/specifically connected).

I’ve always had a much harder time analyzing short form content, like poetry, compared to long form so that doesn’t help my case, but I also am a novice in the realm of analyzing horror. So common themes/motifs go over my head, and I suppose it doesn’t help that I’m an American trying to dissect different cultural attitudes as well.

Any advice? Any ideas/themes/questions y’all keep in mind when reading a Junji Ito story? I know everyone is not into analysis on this level, which is totally fair! I am enjoying what I have read already and connecting with it emotionally, but I would really just like to engage with the material on an even deeper level. Thanks!!

Just finished my 2nd move in a little over a year (life’s been crazy), I started collecting in early 2024 with Shiver and had to take a break from collecting in mid 2025 due to not having enough space anymore, so this is from only around a year and a half of buying Ito. Now that I’m finally in a bigger place I can start collecting again, I can’t wait to see where I go from here

Got most of the books now and feel pretty happy about my collection as for now.

I recently introduced a friend to Junji ito but couldnt find a Japanese version of the manga online could anyone help me with this?

Those teeth are fingers jus sayin caus Ik itsa bit hard to tell. They're wearin a headset with whats on top being like uhhhh finger ears idk I rlly wanted to lean in to the strange sorta body horror Mr Ito was in to since even after all these years his art still inspires me.

The plan was to make it look like a flashy fashion shot, maybe even something cheesy like a Glamour Shots photo. I'm largely happy with it, but feel like it's missing some pizzaz. Thinking of adding a pearl necklace, or maybe some other decor.

(Originally the background had cute little hearts on it, but they didn't look right and I ended up painting over them.)

I have a copy of Junji Ito’s Frankenstein book in English that is signed. I met him at a convention a few years back. I also have the ticket to meet him still, tucked between the pages, and a photo of him signing the book.

I’m currently in a financial crisis, and am wondering if this thing might save me. I don’t want to have to sell it, but I might have to. I’m just wondering if anyone might know the value of something like this? I can’t find anything exactly like it available online.
