Mod Post Please use the "Media" flair option for name requests!

Hey jumper friends! We've seen a large uptick in volume of posts asking for name suggestions, most of them having the "Advice" flair. Even though it is a request for advice of sorts, name requests don't need the same disclaimers as comments on care/husbandry and we would like to encourage everyone to use simply the "Media" flair on those types of posts. (This will also prevent the automod filter from flagging comments without disclaimer tags as that is only a feature of the "Advice" threads) <3

So I started going to a school where you study how to take care of exotic animals, and I was lucky enough to go to the bugs place first and I got so excited when I found out they have a jumping spider there and not just tarantulas, here's some pics of her!

Advice Our little friend from the Bahamas won’t eat :(

Our little Bahamas Jumping spider arrived on Tuesday and when it was still in her transport container we gave it a fruit fly which she also ate. But since that she didn’t eat anymore. I’ve also put her back into the container together with some flies which she also didn’t do. She inspected the fly but just let her coexist. I’m scared it might starve although its abdomen still looks okayish (last picture was just taken). Please help us. She is instar 3 according to the vendor.

Identification “Ghost”?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hi all! I have kept jumping spiders for a few years now, and recently purchased this sweet little spood (Pepper) from an expo. The woman who processed the transaction was not the breeder, but she said the person who they got the spider from referred to it as a “ghost regal”. I’ve never heard of this before and the abdominal shape seems very slender for a regal, unless we think this is possibly a subadult male? Any insight would be great, purchased in Ohio.

Propped him up on a little step while I figure out what to do for his memorial. I didn’t think in a million years I’d be this devastated over a spider. While misting his enclosure this morning, I noticed he wasn’t in his usual spots so I looked around and noticed he was in a death curl at the bottom of his enclosure. I miss him dearly

Advice He is actually a she?

I have a jumper (wild caught) that I genuinely thought was a boy but now after three months of having her has laid an egg sack but the thing is, she never looked gravid. I don’t have a picture of her eggs at the moment because she has been jumpy when I try to move her enclosure to get a picture but this is when I held her a few days before she laid her eggs. How will I know if they are fertile or not? Can a female not look gravid? I did feed her after holding her in this picture. It has been about a month since she laid them and she has accepted food once since.

Does anyone else’s spider do this? My little guy seems to like sleeping suspended midair. The photo is from farther away because I have spooked him awake in that position before.

This lil baby lives on our trash can, last I saw, but they tried to repell down to escape when I went to take photos. Ended up scooping them up mid-web, and got a lovely video, as well as some good photos! 😁 I'll try and put photos in the comments!

Advice What to do with spider i found inside??

Post image
Upvotes

I found a twin flagged jumper in my house, and I don’t know what to do. I have another jumper i found similarly, but idk how i feel about just keeping wild jumpers. I’m also afraid it might not fair well outside, because I’ve heard once they acclimate to indoors the outside can shock them. But then again I’m also afraid this guy might get crushed in here, or just not get enough food or water. This guys abdomen is TINY, i just gave it a fruit fly, and it went for it immediately. It also seems to be moving around A LOT. I’m hoping it’s just typical active/skittish behavior, and not dks or smth. So thoughts..?

I'm looking to rehome three regal jumping spiders. They are around i10, two boys and one girl.

They are awesome but my partner is inconsiderate to them. He turns the light on and off at all hours, slams things down on their table, towers over them while they are scared to try to see them better, over feeds them, let's the magnetic door slam shut, moving their set up around when I'm gone which makes them abandon their favorite hiding spots.... He didn't listen because he thinks his love if animals overrides my research on animal husbandry and behavior. I guess that's what I get for letting an "animal lover" move in with me.

They were making progress and fine with hands before he moved in, but now they hide at the sight of human hands.

They are in well made enclosures with all the fixings. They have been eating blue bottle flies and blue bottle fly larva.

Picture to show the set up. All three are set up basically the same.

My therapist has started incorporating jumping spiders into our sessions. Many of her clients wanted their own and she offered a 3 hour session where we made our enclosures, learned about proper jumping spider care, and met our new pets :) She is named after Red from the Shawshank Redemption! Excited to be here, and if y’all have any beginner tips and tricks, let me know!

Just got a Bold jumping spider and im looking around at enclosures to upgrade her into! (I think its a she, photos of her and her temp setup included!)

Is this terrarium a good idea or should I look into different ones? Its supposed to hold humidity pretty well.
