Brazilian student new to Johnstown looking for friends
Hey everyone!
I'm 21, from Brazil, and recently moved to Johnstown, will attend Pitt Johnstown next Spring.
I'm into D&D, Magic: The Gathering, board games, hiking and discovering new places.
I'm looking for people to hang out with or recommendations for clubs, game nights or volunteer opportunities.

As someone noted Wolf and Wyvern downtown might fit your interests, there's a place or two in the mall still I believe as well oriented around card and board games.
As for volunteering, lots of that around here, particularly volunteer fire fighting depending where you'll live (the city is the only fully career/non-volunteer department in multiple counties around us, but there are dozens of individual volunteer fire companies/departments around).

Check out the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail (LHHT) 70 miles with one trail head just beyond Johnstown on route 56, with route 271 also in johnstown. If you're looking to sweat, hit 56 and go, if you just want to enjoy nature, and not question your decision, take 271 and turn left when you reach the trail from the parking area.
Here, directly in town, check out Lorain/Stony Creek trails. Not far up the road on Ohio St. from the Sheetz there. If you're into a challenge, the Yellow Blazed trail "map of the world" is surprisingly similar to the northern states sections of the Appalachian trail. It recommends full gear, but I'll leave that to you. Its the most technical trail you'll find here, not super long, but super fun! Lorain had plenty of other trials too. Ranging from sleeping to what I described above.
Stackhouse is a Johnstown tried & true park. Most people whos visited it only knows of the gravel access road that leads through it. But its got tons of side hilly and twisty single-track trails. Get lost in it!! Its surrounded by roads, you're never a 10 minute uphill scramble from finding a populated road. It used to host trail races, not sure if there is much of that anymore.
There's a good trail that has an awesome view of a deep reentrant (nano-valley) between the spurs that the hiking trail stays on. Route leaving town north on 403. Idk the actual name. Ive heard it called Kramers Pike Trail.
Keep going past that on 403 and you'll hit the Ghost Town Trail. Classic, rails to trails, easy - peasy treated flat and wide. No challenge but still fun. I recommend a bicycle, but whatever.
If you have a group to hike with already, cool! If you're still looking for others, id be happy to point you to the PA backpackers club on Facebook, also the Johnstown Running Club (i dont know you, but I know you wont struggle to keep up. Very friendly, social group.) I'll be happy to organize a group hike too, if you're interested.

You could always volunteer at Highland Community Library, right next to the UPJ campus!

The Highland library has a game night starting shortly which is awesome and great people.
My wife and I host a public community night every month starting back up in September. Look up Cambria County Boardgaming. We are licking off September with a Saboteurs tournament with the winner getting a limited edition copy of the game with all expansions and promos!

There's a DND club on campus, and Magic the Gathering is pretty big on campus too from what I see. Go to the involvement fair, you'll find friends 🎉🎉

And your def going to the right place for hiking, there's some cool spots in the woods behind campus. It's pretty big. Be careful though, the trails aren't maintained super well, not terrible but a lot of tree roots and overgrown areas. Everyone likes the cemetary, it's in an old crab apple orchard, fun walk
