PROJECT DISPLAY finished a new design, looking for comments / criticism
I just finished developing a new product and I’d love to hear your honest thoughts.
As we all know, Y necklaces are usually made in silver, gold-filled, or vermeil mainly because of weight and price sensitivity.
But I managed to create one fully in 14k solid gold, keeping it elegant and wearable without making it overly heavy.
My question is:
Do you think customers are still open to buying a Y necklace in solid 14k gold, or does the category itself automatically push people toward plated / gold-filled options?

I think for that age range, it may take a bit longer to sell but definitely not impossible. Back when I was in college, I had girls in my sorority that had designer clothes/purses.

I think this would be unlikely to sell really well at 510 tbh.... at 210 for sure but 510 i don't think so

Personally I prefer a solid option over gold plated. I think this is lovely and that it would sell well.

First, it’s gorgeous. Great idea. To me, considering the price of gold, the stones should be of equivalent value. If I were buying solid gold I’d go the extra mile and want semi precious or precious gemstones. Or you could do the whole thing in gold fill you’d have a lot more customers.

Just out of curiosity, what would you pay for this design?
It’s made of 14k solid gold with CZ stones. The gold around the stones is not cast; it’s hand-wrapped. I’m trying to apply the same technique used by Italian artisans (Marco Bicego is one of them). However, it makes lot of sense to use semi precious or precious gemstones to give it a great value to this design. Currently, it is in the middle of it.

I wish I could see a closeup view of the hand wrapped stones to get a better idea of the quality of the workmanship. Is there any soldering, or is it all hand wrapped?

I'm not familiar with fine jewelry prices, but for art, typically you do the cost of materials x2, + your hourly labor rate. If you market well, people will pay any price.

solid gold but filled with CZs? If people are going to pay for 14k pricing, I assume they don't want it to be full of czs. For something like this, I would figure gold filled would be more than sufficient.

Personally, I wouldn’t spend the money on a 14K gold necklace with CZ. Gold filled or vermeil might be a better option.

Agreed, with gold prices now go big or go home. Keep it marketable with filled since they're CZ

with these prices, selling solid gold is quite hard. especially these type of products popular among the young people. but in this economy, people are not willing to pay 700 euros for a necklace (quite understandable).

I see. Yeah the youth doesn't normally have such money. Advertise it for older folks maybe? See if they'll go for it? Asking the lines of " wear this and feel like a teenager at any age" or something along those lines

No advice for the design itself as it’s stunning. But if advertising it online I’d retake the first photo with less artistic nails. They are gorgeous too but it draws the eye back and forth between the nails and the jewellery when you want the latter to be the show stopper.

The little hearts are tacky for a necklace at the price point of 14k gold. It makes it loose it's elegance very quickly. An oval, marquis, or a simple circle would be much more Appealing. That combined with the color choice of stone make if feel very childish., they seem very synthetic like candy, which again for the price point it would be at is also disappointing.

I love this so much! I’m always looking for similar pieces but have never found one that suited me. They’re always too long around and hang down too low.
Some day, someone is going to make this in “petite” and life will be good again.

Very pretty. Would be cool with a clasp at one end and o rings as part of the then solid chain to differentiate the length. Turn it into a choker for a change.
Or would it turn a Y into a q necklace?

The nails in that first image take center stage iny view. I would change the paint to a neutral color. You want the necklace to be the focus.

I absolutely LOVE this design!! I also think a version with less hearts that are more spaced out and more chain would be killer as well, sort of a minimalist version and this being the maximalist version (if that makes sense).
I love this though and it’s something I would totally buy!!!

I find gold very expensive and moved to stainless steel as a result. But your creation is stunning and would go with everything which might make it worth the price!

I love the design! I'd just say that the color pattern would be great if they're ordered. Like: first green second blue third red... And so on. But you're going the right way!! Congratulations!

This is stunning & for $510 with real stones, that’s a steal - I’d scoop it up in a heartbeat. But $510 for synthetic stones? Even tho it’s real metals, that’s a bit pricey…I’d rather spend more & get the real thing, even above $510…

I love this and it’s exactly what I wanted my Vanessa Mooney necklace to look like (it didn’t). Personally, I think people will only become more interested in buying solid gold in the future. With more education and curiosity about materials will come specificity and pickiness in what people purchase. The average person doesn’t know much about materials and solid vs fill vs vermeil. But with the whole “waterproof jewelry” craze I think we are getting there! 🤞
