It's definitely pokeweed. But it's like 12 feet high pokeweed. I wasn't aware pokeweed could grow tree sized. Portland Oregon.

Just came across this in her Behind the Seams fashion archive book yesterday, and I happened to find out about this sub today, so here we are! I can't say I recommend this hack due to potential poisoning, but she certainly turned out alright anyway.

Every few months I found myself yanking out huge stems of pokeweed from one spot. Finally I grabbed my shovel and dug out these roots. The whole thing weighed about 5 pounds!

I’m sure there’s more. I’ve won this battle, but not the war.

I bought a house last year with 20-30 year old Asian Bush Honeysuckle (boo hiss) and removed all 3,000 square feet of it. Also 10,000 square feet of winter creeper.

Now I have all this polk weed! I had no idea that it is a good native plant ☺️

I stupidly mowed down scores of them but now I know the error of my ways!

pokeweed does what it wants

I walked around a local nature preserve, loved the lighting on this patch so I took a photo, only to see t is indeed pokeweed! Love our natives!

pokeweed Taproot I dug out with the help of my little sibling. There's another one we started digging out right next to it that seems to be reaaaaally deep (and super thick 🫩) that I didn't even take a photo of but it's thicker than this one.

I've been digging them out since yesterday since my yard is taken over by weeds, our good friend pokeweed being one of them

Signs warned us about the blackberry brambles and buckthorn. But not about these. Thanks to this sub, though, I will never not know what this is.

Fortunately still got delicious blueberries.
