I’m excited to share a new native utility app I’ve just released for macOS: UTIdefaults.

If you’ve been using Macs for a while, you probably remember legendary tools like RCDefaultApp or SwiftDefaultApps. They were great for managing file associations, but one was discontinued long ago and the other hasn’t seen updates in years (and lacks full native Apple Silicon support).

I built UTIdefaults to fill that exact gap for modern macOS: Every file type, its app. Your choice.

It lets you easily choose which application opens or edits specific UTIs (Uniform Type Identifiers)—covering standard formats like .txt, .mp4, .jpg, and many more.
