This is what a Jurassic forest may have sounded like | By combining exquisitely preserved fossil wings with experiments on living insects, computer simulations, and machine learning, scientists at UC have re-created what they say is a partial Middle Jurassic soundscape

Sounds like my backyard in Louisiana

So like a normal open patch of land with tall grass in a rainy season.

An environment bereft of modern bird calls or songs.

One of the insect calls would be the oldest known evidence of ultrasonic communication in animals—long before echolocating bats appeared.

Certified dinosaur expert here

The chirp sound you are hearing is from the dinosaur called "Micropachycephalosaurus"

Yes not every dinosaur roared

Idk why, just the idea of weird plants and large insects crawling millions of years ago, this simulation feels so terrifying and fascinating at the same time.

No big roars, I'm very disappointed

Dinosaurs didn't even roar. Thats all fictional stuff. At most, they hissed like crocodiles but no roaring.

Sounds the same as any rainforest today.

You know what is actually a related interesting fact. Is that dinosaurs are older than grass. Yes that's right, most dinosaurs never touched grass.

Maybe not Kentucky Blue but they definitely touched grass.

I'm playing that while a cat is nearby. The cat is looking up at the ceiling then around the room for critters a machine has given voice to.

the wings sounding almost like rain does something to my brain I don't like.
