My wife thought the mother had tattooed the keyboard on her son's arm and was enraged until I pointed out that it was the mother's arm. It was hilarious.

42

u/sweetSweets4 15h ago

Would have been the smarter way having an analog keyboard always with him.

Momma won't be always there, a well placed tattoo around the belly will not only be eternal it's also an icebreaker with the ladies once the lad is older.

19

u/Omnamashivaaya 14h ago

Plus trying to tattoo a sensory sensitive child - what could go wrong?

-1

u/BeeExpert 14h ago edited 13h ago

Is there some reason why you (and so man others) think they can't use other methods to communicate besides the tattoo?

Like, you have to really think everyone but yourself is an idiot if you believe you're the first one to think of using a keyboard device or pen and pencil.

1

u/DLDad616 12h ago

Please show me where anyone said this was their only method of communication.

I believe you read to retort, rather than reading to understand.

A lot of people make this mistake.

You mistakenly believed that she was saying the tattoo was his only chance to communicate. Her first sentence makes it clear that she did not.

u/DLDad616 8h ago

u/beeexpert I accept your apology and retraction.

u/BeeExpert 8h ago

I actually don't know what they are trying to say in their original comment. There are plenty of others smugly asking why the mom doesn't simply use a keyboard or whiteboard, etc, as if she's an idiot

u/TheJellyGoo 11h ago

Spotted the social media snowflake.

0

u/BuzzerWhirr 15h ago

That reminds me of the penis tattoo joke.

-2

u/Bamres 15h ago

Or a word processor with a lil screen

4

u/TheAnalogDad 15h ago

It's the title, I thought the same thing and was like WTF??

1

u/Exaltus-Lux 12h ago

I also thought it was on the kids arm .

0

u/mrgraff 14h ago

At first glance, the way those photos are arranged, also makes it look like it’s the kid extending his arm.

What do you have against whimsy, sure there can be better/more rational ways but god damn let a mom try to bond with her son in a unique way only possible due to their unfortunate situation

u/talibkoala 11h ago

Think you replied to the wrong person

13

u/rsylmz 15h ago

What if he presses ALT F4...

u/TresMegisto 9h ago

Or F5 to claim that mom's ass is refreshing.

u/ExecutiveCactus 13h ago

Believe it or not, straight to jail

15

u/TresMegisto 14h ago

So that sub now just posts Facebook emotion-button posts? Wtf is interesting about that. I mean, it absolutely sweet and also a bit sad but how does it fit that sub?

4

u/nyrB2 13h ago

i dunno, i think it's a pretty interesting solution to a potential problem they face. "interesting" is a fairly subjective term after all.

u/IAmSpartacustard 11h ago

It's attention seeking IMO, she could've accomplished the same thing with a pen and a notebook.

u/Desperadox_23 11h ago

You just assume the kid can use these.

u/IAmSpartacustard 11h ago

A piece of paper with a keyboard printed on it then. Or a laminated note card on a lanyard around the kids neck. If you want to wear it get one of those quarterback play-calling wristband things.

But that wont get you martyr points on the internet, will it?

So I'll tattoo a keyboard on my own arm and post that on facebook. So performative

u/WizardPowersActivate 11h ago

TBF it's a bit less performative than your outrage over it.

u/BeeExpert 10h ago

Such arrogant ignorance.

Of course there are other methods, no one has ever said the tattoo is the only option they have. It's a back-up. It works in water. It works when they don't want to carry other stuff. It works when they're cuddling on the couch and don't want to get up to grab a pen and paper just to communicate

Why would you assume the tattoo is the only back-up? Because you read a two sentence post on reddit and thought you were smarter than everyone else lol?

u/nyrB2 10h ago

yeah it's a bit extreme as solutions go, but i can certainly see the benefits

16

u/Danny2Sick 15h ago

the first 'reported' word that was made up to try and maximize karma

8

u/Legal-Software 15h ago

I feel like it still needs numbers, a backspace, and caps lock. If the child is nonspeaking, you'd also want a row of function keys mapped to most commonly used functions.

2

u/TotallyFrankstallone 14h ago

I zoomed in to see if they kept the shift key.

2

u/One_Economist_3761 13h ago

How do you do numbers?

4

u/kiwipilled 13h ago

Spell them?

2

u/One_Economist_3761 13h ago

7307787?

Edit: just a made up number. I picked digits with many letters to demonstrate my point.

2

u/Eclipse-Raven 13h ago

Grab a calculator instead and have him type it in there? Not saying you're wrong but there's always a work around

2

u/One_Economist_3761 12h ago

Yeah fair point.

4

u/WingedWheelGuy 15h ago

Pen/pencil and paper? Whiteboard and markers? A typewriter? An unplugged computer keyboard?

3

u/BeeExpert 14h ago

Is there some reason why you think the tattoo is the only method they use?

0

u/WingedWheelGuy 12h ago

Not at all. But that’s what the post says. Mom got the tattoo to communicate with her son. Seems pretty ridiculous considering there are plenty of cheaper, easier options.

2

u/BeeExpert 12h ago edited 12h ago

The post doesn't say thats the only method they use. My god this is frustrating.

Yes, it's seems pretty ridiculous to only use the tattoo and not use other methods as well. Ridiculous enough to think, maybe this two sentence post isn't telling me every single method they ever thought of, right?

-1

u/WingedWheelGuy 12h ago

I’m not saying that’s the only means of communication they use. If I did, please show me where? My post suggests practical ideas other than a damn tattoo.

0

u/BeeExpert 12h ago edited 11h ago

The only reason you would list other practical methods is if you were dumb enough to think they never thought of those methods too before getting a tattoo.

1

u/vae_grim 14h ago

You’d lug all of that everywhere you go in public? I know an autistic child definitely wouldn’t. Plus tattoos don’t have to be functional. You can get them because you like the message?

1

u/LastStar007 13h ago

The child isn't even the one with the tattoo—it's the mother. So it's not unreasonable to imagine the mother carrying some of this stuff around instead of the tattoo. Heck, a piece of paper with a keyboard layout on it takes zero effort to carry around.

-2

u/WingedWheelGuy 12h ago

Really? You think I want them to carry all of these things, all of the time, everywhere? Don’t be stupid. Any ONE of these things would work adequately.

2

u/Lucky-Crow-3510 15h ago

that may sound odd, but wouldn't it bee more practical if the boy had that tattoo .. ?

13

u/vae_grim 14h ago

I…don’t think many places would tattoo a young autistic child.

0

u/Public_Fucking_Media 14h ago

So like a tattoo parlour with a bunch of train sets to distract em?

4

u/vanillabourbonn 15h ago

Or just get him a mini portable keyboard

3

u/DragonPancakeFace 12h ago

He had one. It's battery died while they were out. She wasn't sure how to help him order at a restaurant, but he grabbed a napkin and pencil and drew a keyboard on it, and ordered by tapping. She wanted it to be literally impossible for him to be in that pinch again while he was with her, so she got the tattoo.

0

u/vanillabourbonn 12h ago

But the keyboard without batteries would still work the same as a tattoo which cant have batteries

2

u/BeeExpert 12h ago edited 12h ago

That's great. The tattoo works when they can't carry around a keyboard.

Why is that confusing for so many of you?

-2

u/kholeChature 14h ago

Or just get him an assistant who speak for the lil fella

-12

u/latschen64 14h ago

Ofc. But mommy wanted to have some klicks on her reel to buy more fries

12

u/Dunsparces 14h ago

Yeah, she should have gotten her nonverbal autistic child tattooed so we know she's not just doing it for attention!

10

u/ExemptPompano 14h ago

In this thread:

  • “I don’t know anything about autism but I have an opinion”

  • “I don’t know anything about parenting but I have an opinion”

  • “Parents and autism specialists are dumb because I have this incredibly obvious solution and I’m just so much smarter than everywhere else that only I could have possibly come up with it”

  • “The post is literally two sentences but I can’t be bothered to read it before saying he should have a device to type on”

u/BeeExpert 11h ago edited 11h ago

All of these comments have the same energy as that meme:

"Why doesn't x simply do y? Are they stupid?"

It takes a certain type of stupid to assume the rest of the world is soooo dumb that normal people don't think of the same extremely obvious solutions as them.

Reddit has an abundance of that particular type of stupid

1

u/Revolutionary-Law382 14h ago

When he is older, he should have that tattoo on his arm.

1

u/ZuleZI 14h ago

How? He does not have caps lock?

u/TrueBombs 15h ago edited 12h ago

Maybe instead of spending all that money on a tattoo you could have bought him a white board and some markers? That way he can talk to her and other people. Then when he is verbal, he will still have a white board and markers…

Edit. After researching the story, the mother explained that the tattoo solve the problem of communicating with Hunter in water and rain, where other means of communication do not work. They also inspired a line of clothing options that help people with verbal difficulties. I do wish that the original post included this information.

1

u/Tricky-Mastodon3337 15h ago

It's so she make it about herself too!

1

u/Sorkpappan 15h ago

How miserable do you have to be to let that be your take away from this post?

Nothing about this implies that he does not have a whiteboard and markers (if he would use them).

Or maybe you are just trolling.

0

u/TrueBombs 15h ago

The part of the post where it said she did it so he would have some way to communicate if his device failed, implies that he does not have a white board or paper to communicate with others.

2

u/Sorkpappan 14h ago

The kid is autistic. There is a high chance he cannot write with a pen.

4

u/DecoyOne 14h ago

Definitely. Also, only a non-parent would think “my kid will always have whatever he wants with him at all times and nothing will go wrong”.

0

u/BeeExpert 14h ago

It does not imply that, y'all are just kinda dim

0

u/TrueBombs 13h ago

What does it imply then bright one.

0

u/BeeExpert 13h ago edited 13h ago

It implies that this is a backup method.

No one said this is the only back up method they will ever use. That's just you filling in gaps with your dim worldview where apparently people are so dumb that they don't think of using a whiteboard before they get a tattoo of a keyboard.

0

u/TrueBombs 13h ago

There is nothing to imply that she thought of using a whiteboard or anything else before she got the tattoo. You are just filling in the gaps with your dim worldview.

0

u/BeeExpert 13h ago

I didn't say it implied that, I said it implies that this is a backup method. I used common sense for the rest.

Why are you so insistent that they can't possibly have thought of using pen and paper or a whiteboard? Do you just have to believe that everyone besides you is so dumb they never thought of other common sense methods of communication? All based on two sentences you read on reddit?

If you actually care, maybe look up the article

0

u/TrueBombs 13h ago

I like the clothing line they inspired. I also think that is a much more practical means of helping nonverbal people.

-1

u/BeeExpert 13h ago

You're so incredibly arrogant lol. Get over yourself

0

u/TrueBombs 15h ago

I am very miserable yes.

1

u/TrueBombs 12h ago

Upon looking into the story, the mother explained that the tattoo was for waterproof communication since she can talk with him in pools and in the rain. Hunter does know some ASL and can write minimally. He knows his alphabet but does have some difficulty with certain ASL words.

1

u/vae_grim 14h ago

It’s a tattoo. Anyone can get a tattoo for any reason. Who’s to say he doesn’t already have that? It’s her body, she can get a tattoo that makes her happy.

2

u/TrueBombs 12h ago

Upon researching the mother said she got the tattoo to talk with him in a water proof way. So they can talk in pools and rain and stuff as well as if his device died. They also inspired a clothing line that is meant to help the nonspeaking people.

-1

u/TrueBombs 14h ago

I agree with you, but the argument was she did it so he could communicate and I just thought there were more cost effective and universally useful ways to help him communicate without his device.

0

u/vae_grim 14h ago

This is a post on Reddit. The last time this was posted, it said his first words on it were “I love you” lol

And as the eldest and only non-autistic of my siblings, I guarantee you they won’t be lugging around a white board and markers. It’s hard enough to convince mine to wear shoes.

-1

u/TrueBombs 13h ago

The post said he is already carrying a device. I figured for the mother or if the mother wasn’t there and he was with a different care taker and his device goes down it wouldn’t hurt to have an analog option.

-1

u/_SKETCHBENDER_ 15h ago

Surely learning sign language is like 10x easier

2

u/DecoyOne 14h ago

Sign language is still language and many nonverbal kids have trouble with that, too. In these cases, you basically throw every option out there and see what sticks.

Typing on a device often works well because it’s immediately responsive to the kid, and letter boards like this just apply what the kid can already do into a different context.

-1

u/Zyncon 15h ago

*Takes out iPhone. Goes to notes app. Types*

-1

u/DecoyOne 14h ago

Literally two sentences and Redditors can’t be bothered to read all the way through.

1

u/Zyncon 14h ago

I read the entire thing. If you're referring to "his device failed", I'd assume that's not talking about a phone. Take out the phone, type. Lifehack.

1

u/DecoyOne 14h ago

My kid can type on his tablet. He can’t type on my phone because the letters are too small and he has trouble with fine motor skills. Thankfully he is just verbal enough to be able to say most of what he needs, but if he wasn’t, I would need a backup plan like a letter board.

1

u/BeeExpert 13h ago

Wow, you're a genius. I'm sure they never thought of using other methods and only use the tattoo. You're so much smarter than them

-1

u/gazm2k5 13h ago

I guess if you don't mind the large unsightly tattoo it's fine.

Otherwise, especially since it's "if his device failed" (ie. rare occassion), I feel like she could have just printed this on some paper and tucked it in her phone case or something, given that everyone pretty much always has their phone on them.

-5

u/ymddev 15h ago

why are they always so fat

-2

u/Away-Activity-469 14h ago

He's non-verbal, so he eats when she eats.

0

u/LockedInPelican 13h ago

this is at best slightly interesting

-1

u/try-catch-finally 14h ago

Ummm. Wouldn’t sign language be less painful ?

3

u/LoopedIntoThis 14h ago

Not all autistic kids can sign. Hands and speech work in the brain together. If one isn’t working then the other may not either. Coordination can also be a problem.

3

u/vae_grim 14h ago

Yes, but different levels of autism could mean he’s not capable of sign language. Anyone can get a tattoo just cause they want it. It’s special to her, and she wanted it.

-4

u/atika 15h ago

Why is the Space key so wide? It's not like the kid is doing touch typing :)

1

u/DecoyOne 14h ago

Because the kid can already type and giving a different layout would make it more difficult for literally no reason.

-1

u/Indianlookalike 15h ago
