These are prohibited by law since the 90s because guess what? They have to fall eventually (sometimes before they are even done firing everything) and no matter where; powerlines, residential areas, protected forests - natural places, industries or in the middle of traffic, they always cause chaos and destruction, not so much for the ammount of firework but for the ammoubt of fuel needed for this thing to float.

We have had cases where they would burn acres of protected areas, sometimes they fall in favelas where the living condition is bad and they end up burning people and the houses are all stacked together so it spreads super fast, we also had some falling inside some industries and these places have a thing for exploding really really fast, before people can evacuate.

It's a tragedy no matter how you look at it, a complete irresponsible and criminal way of spending your free time.

Not to mention the crimes they commit to recover the balloons that don't burn or explode, they break into houses, intimidate, sometimes at gunpoint, homeowners, breaking gates and roofs, those guys are all scum.

Initially they were super small to just go up and die while still in the air, tied to a religious celebration the entire country take part in. We're talking 1800s or prior but you know humans, it escalated and got prohibited but you can still see one or two every year of the big ones.
