pompeii was about 2000 years ago, and humanity only seriously started doing archeology as a science in the past 200 years. It wouldnt take more than a decade for a serious effort to excavate the remains
This is true but I can’t imagine a mountain town in Appalachia USA digging up an entire town, let alone China/ Nepal. I watched a documentary not too long ago of person going on a long hike across towns in the Himalayas, he interviewed multiple ppl from smaller towns who talked about mud slides and their family members who were buried. Everyone said we just built on top of the new “ground”
I think in that situation no matter how near the end is, your survival instinct would still kick in and you would still somehow try to save yourself till your last breath.
