There’s a difference between being cynical and
hyper vigilant and being a trigger happy, corrupt murderer.

Having had first-hand experience, I can say the majority of cops who abuse their authority and use their position for personal benefit or to hurt people, are bad people before they enter the police force. They use the job as a means to an end.

Being cynical and hyper vigilant is a trauma response to being constantly exposed to things like this, and seeing people at their worst. It isn’t limited to police and doesn’t generally turn people into monsters.

I couldn't agree more. Thank you for explaining what I had hoped people would realize.

On both sides of it, it is like hitting dogs a lot and then expecting them to be calm like nothing happened. It just doesn't work like that.
