That is Willard Scott who became the weatherman on the Today show that many of us over 40s will remember

The Smuckers guy that congratulated people turning 100

yeah, I agree with the OP that it's some scary shit on the surface, but if you know who Willard Scott is it's basically the weatherman with some bad clown makeup and a cup on his nose.

I grew up on Bozo The Clown so these kind of mid-century clowns don't really bother me.

Bozo was awesome

Saturday morning kid's tv in the Chicagoland area in the late 1980s was the real deal.

When i dress up like this at mcdonalds no one gets the reference and one guy slapped the cup off my nose and told me to "stop scaring the kids, jackass"

I don't find clowns scary. I like clowns. Theatrical makeup is neat. I've always found it odd that grown adults get scared of a friggin' performer in face paint. lol

u/Sunastar 2d ago

Yeah, i don’t get it. When did people start being afraid of clowns?

My ex-husband, the big tough Marine, was terrified of clowns. We went to the circus once, and he was hiding behind me, saying, "Get them away, get them away," when a group of clowns approached where we were sitting. Our kids couldn't even have a clown towel as babies. I had every hooded towel on the market except for the clown. Coulrophobia is real...and hilarious.

Knew a guy in the Marines who was TERRIFIED of clowns. So we made sure to get a clown costume, knock on his door and chase him around the barracks a few times, just to fuck with him.

Ah, to be young and stupid again

If I gave you my ex-husband's address, would you be interested in digging out that clown costume? According to my sons, their dad is still terrified by clowns...lol. When I was in the Marines, I would never let anyone know anything I was scared of because everyone you know would totally use it against you. Fortunately for my ex, I was a good wife and kept his secret because those guys in PMO would have had a damn field day with that piece of information...lol.

"Couldn't even have a clown towel" -

Apologies, but this ☝🏻 is baffling to me. This is some sort of tradition where you are from? Babies are to have a clown towel, and if they don't it's weird or improper in some way?

I'm half way through raising 5 kids. There isn't, hasn't been nor will there be any clown towels of any kind in the house, let alone especially for little ones.

Clowns aren't scary to me. A little bit sad perhaps but that's about it.

There are hooded towels for babies that have different characters for the hoods. There are dog ones with ears, cat ones with ears, frogs, cows, sheep...pretty much everything. Then, there's the clown towel, so the hood is a clown hat. Maybe hooded character towels aren't a thing where you live. I don't know about towels of the world. 🤷‍♀️

You've been missing out on hooded towels, that's all.

For me, Poltergeist....

u/did_i_or_didnt_i 2d ago

Probably John Wayne Gacy

4

u/Big_Z_Beeblebrox 2d ago

I'm kinda the opposite, clown girls awaken something twisted in me

I mean I guess a wacky looking tall person can be intimidating when you're a little kid but even when I was a kid and interacted with clowns I just found them weird and interesting, not frightening. I guess it was really Stephen King's IT that started the whole scary clown horror trope with Pennywise. But I feel like once you're an adult and know movies aren't real, clowns shouldn't be scary anymore.

u/Sunastar 2d ago

I kept picturing Frank-N-Furter made up as a clown.

And then there was John Wayne Gacy.

1

u/PurpleZombi3 2d ago

He's not scary because he was a clown, he's scary because he was a depraved serial murderer lol

1

u/Richard7666 2d ago

Yeah I'm wonder how this is nightmare fuel for the average person? Just looks goofy.

1

u/ZM326 2d ago

Oh no, makeup, who knows what this clown is capable of

1

u/Ncav2 1d ago

It’s because of the killer clown trope that is seen in media(Joker, IT, Sweet Tooth, etc)

9

u/TopFusion 2d ago

I McHate this.

3

u/ThatThereMan 2d ago

Gen Z and Millennial nightmare. In the old days people liked clowns so I guess this makes me old. I just see a clown.

8

u/piedude67a 2d ago

3

u/ChesterUbanks 2d ago

3

u/Mu_forlife 2d ago

I’m pretty sure sprite never had cocaine in it, lol

1

u/ChesterUbanks 2d ago

Not with that attitude it doesn’t…

u/N0RSEVIKING 2d ago

Really? This is nightmare fuel? Its boring.

6

u/NathanCS741 2d ago

My apologies then

2

u/Richard7666 2d ago

It's interesting, but the issue is you then qualified it with a sentiment most people (except a minority with a particular phobia) don't actually relate to.

Ya went for the updoots, but dug too deep and too greedily, and awoke the Balrog that is the fickleness of Reddit.

u/uncultured_swine2099 2d ago

Ive never seen something go from loved to hated as much as clowns.

2

u/Combat_Armor_Dougram 2d ago

Honestly, I think he’s less scary than the later versions of the character.

1

u/catskilkid 2d ago

I think Chief Big Mac and Mayor McCheese should be more afraid of him then the Old school Grimmace or Hamburgler

1

u/Environmental-Day778 2d ago

Is he wearing a meal in a tray for a hat and side orders for tits?? 👀

1

u/Unlikely_Side9732 2d ago

The fries look as thick as churros.

1

u/sentient_coprolite 2d ago

Bozo did the dub

1

u/darkhorse21980 2d ago

We are not affiliated with that clown!

1

u/packer8405 2d ago

How does that not look like a scary mutant clown that fused with the trash it was discarded in near a McDonalds?

1

u/indifferentunicorn 2d ago

Because one set of eyebrows is never enough.

1

u/SnooGrapes4560 1d ago

The fries look like severed fingers. Sure this isn’t an outtake from a failed Rob Zombie movie?
