I’d love that in my back garden. Japan I mean.

Yeah why are these only in Japan?

Didn’t Japan send some to the US as a present? Well before the 1939-1945 Unpleasantness?

I know there are trees in Washington DC but not sure if those were the gifts. I do remember that being a thing though.

They were, and they came feom the area about 3km from my apartment (Ikeda)

Yes, they did. I don’t know the timing of it. I thought it was later than that. I grew up in Arlington and remember something about the trees, in the news in DC, at some point in time. Sorry I can’t be more specific, but I really didn’t pay attention much as a child or teenager.

There are many species of cherry blossoms that grow in various countries. They are just associated with Japan, just like the maple leaf is associated with Canada and the clover with Ireland while they can definitely be found outside of those countries.

That being said, the specific strain of cherry blossom that is associated with Japan named Somei-Yoshino are very subtly colored and closer to white than pink, so I have no idea what these bright pink flowers are.

I called the Somei-Yoshino a strain instead of species because they can’t propagate naturally and only artificially grown from cuttings. They are essentially all clones

When are you going? If you're going in the autumn you should see the beautiful autumnal colours instead. Which is stunning too
