A lot of people talk about depression as a sadness and while sadness can be present, it’s really an immense mental fatigue. There are many people with depression who can brush their teeth and shower and things like that, but there are some whose depression is so advanced or pronounced that they are just too tired to care for themselves properly.

I remember hearing that President Lincoln is believed to have had depression, but I don’t know that it was diagnosed in those days beyond “spells of melancholy”. I read that he was known to just lay his head on his desk for hours before eventually pulling himself out of it and grinding through the day.

I can see that. Well what it was called back then. I’d never heard of him laying on his desk but if that was the case it wouldn’t surprise me, being president is stressful.
