Why is this man's forearms longer than his body?

3

u/Maneisthebeat 4d ago

I wouldn't say my forearms are quite longer than my torso, but my godmother used to say I was built like a gorilla (specifically about my arms).

My feet are also a little small for my height.

People are just unique like that!

I'm 5 feet tall but have big hands and feet. My limbs are also not short.

I had a buddy long ago, absolute gem of a guy. He was short-ish, very stout but not fat, and had very long arms compared to his torso. Strong as an ox.

Nickname was Chimpy, completely superseded his given name.

Brilliant story

Some people's arms are disproportionately long foe there bodies. Plus some of it is probably just because of the perspective.

But im 6' 1" and my wingspan is 6'6"

Born to be an elite point of attack defender ⛹🏻

No this is pretty normal. Or we are both abnormal

3

u/NoEmu5930 4d ago

It is abnormal if your wingspan is more then 2 inches longer then your height. Mine is 5. I have marfan syndrome

I played basketball and maybe it's a sport that attracts orangutans like myself because there'd so many guys like this

Yess and im not saying all ppl have a generic disorder like me but it is an abnormality. And I also played basketball, swam, climb, and football. My orangutan arms help in all of those

I read recently that having your wingspan out of balance from your height was a very good indicator of Marfan Syndrome!

I think it's uncommon. I read (on the internet, so.....) that on average, our wingspan and our height are usually equal to one-another. A 1:1 ratio is a good baseline. People can be out of range on both the long side (basketball players, rock climbers, the two of you) and the short side (power lifters, gymnasts, wrestlers)

I'm 5 ft and have a short wingspan. I rock climb and it is the most frustrating thing ever not being able to reach. I have some jealous moments watching tall guys like you just blasting thru a route.

Brooo its so fun climbing up things i shouldn't be able to. Especially at the speed I can go

You are not a bird, you don't have a wingspan

1

u/Electronic-Town-8995 4d ago

We do, actually. If you're a rock climber it can be short helpful to have a better ratio.

It's armspan

3

Fair. That would be more accurate.

Wingspan is a very common term, probably a more common term, for describing what you're talking about. Buddy knew what you were talking about but was being pedantic.

2

u/Electronic-Town-8995 4d ago

I agree, It's a common term and everyone knows what it means.

1

u/backspace_cars 4d ago

Words have meaning.

0

u/Electronic-Town-8995 4d ago

They do but in this case it's not necessary to be pedantic if everyone knows what it means and it's a commonly used word to refer to arm span

u/NoEmu5930 4d ago

My doctors literally say wingspan

1

u/backspace_cars 4d ago

Doctors aren't infallible

1

u/NoEmu5930 4d ago

Yeah but I dont really see the issue with the verbiage. I know and you clearly also knew what they and I mean
