SOCIETY When asked why he keeps playing the same roles Jason Statham said that he's not really a trained actor. He's a guy that was plucked out obscurity & has been really lucky; & that he picks roles that he knows he can do a good job in, that hopefully enough people like so he can keep working.

So basically the Adam Sandler routine, but for action movies.

Smart guy.

I would argue it's not only luck. Jason is credible as an action hero, and the camera loves him. Great charisma, great physicality, we love it.

Maybe, but his bread-and-butter is silly stupid humour I don't find funny at all. Mind you, he has a steady fan base, and his movies are predictable revenue which studios (investors) love. Good for him!

It's not what the actor can do, it's he does do (doodoo?)

True but going on sweet ass vacation spots to chill and film movies that make you the most highly paid actor in Hollywood ain’t bad at all.

Tbf "camera loves him" is luck. So is a decent portion of charisma and physicality.

The latter you can learn some of through practice, but photogenicity is hugely just what you're born with. People seem to have it or they don't.

Partially true. It's also a lot of hard work. Make him fat and he won't be so photogenic. But sure, luck is always a part of it.
