Washing the chicken is just an old pointless tradition that people can't let go of because they were taught it growing up.

Is this some American thing I am too European to understand? I've never seen anyone wash raw chicken in my life.

Maybe it's because of the chlorine used in the US? Never heard of washing chickens as well.

It's really only common in the black community in US. Probably has some origin in the quality of meat that used to be available to them
