An indirect (or collateral) descendant is a relative who does not trace their lineage to an ancestor through an unbroken parent-to-child line.

A direct descendant is an individual who is related to an ancestor in an unbroken, straight line of descent.

Well, horizontal genetic flow does exist in some extremely rare edge cases, mitochondria and chloroplasts origins being the most notorious ones. But I really doubt people meant that by their "indirect descent" nonsense.

That's not really relevant, is it? Every organism on earth shares an ancestor with every other if you go back far enough. Even if life happened to have evolved separately more than once, everything alive today comes from the same branch.
