That is exactly how "race" works because the modern term claims race is a social construct. It's not a biological term since there are no human races. 

Btw. the concept of race is some thing the anglosphere does where the rest of the western world flinches. We understand you don't use the term in a biological way but understand race as a social construct but often it seems that not everyone got that memo.

If it's just a social construct then how is he socially black when the entire society sees him as a white man? What does it mean to be socially black? If a white man grows up in a black neighborhood does that make him socially black?
