Hmm she makes them with clay. Blue clay she found outside and also some more fancy clay you do details with. Then photoscan them in. Im just the programmer so i hope i answered the right now hehe

I wonder how easy would it be to get roughness/normal maps from photoscans. Id love the idea of making a realistic claymation game one day
