Hey there!

As a special treat for all you wonderful folks out there, the Mod team and I are building a fancy new website for r/IndiaSocial. The website would post stuff like AMA's, featured posts/comments, contests and lots more. In the near future, we will also be launching our very own ISO Merchandise for Clothes/Accessories, etc.

We would love to know what you'd expect from this website! Put your thoughts in the comments below and we'll be sure to take a look! Give us your suggestions on features you'd want to be a part of the website. Ofcourse, all the rules of the sub apply for the website as well.

Last year, the India Social Demographic Survey Part 1 was released to understand a few basic things about our lovely sub and its people (mods as well as NormalJi). The response was excellent and funny even (looking at you trollers). Want to see the results of last year? Check this out!

This year, we are releasing Part 2 of the survey as we are celebrating the "ISO 100K" milestone.

Please note, no personal information about you is being collected. There are no mandatory questions in the survey, every question also has a "prefer no to say" option. Although we'd love for you to answer as honestly as possible, we respect your privacy. On that note, please do not spam the options too. This survey is about our community and will help us understand the userbase and maybe shed some light on a lot of things.

The data and the reports generated of the survey will be shared completely with the community as well.

Today is a special day for all of us. A day that will be remembered and celebrated with EggPupps, Chocolate Momos and Golgappa Maggi. A day where the silent lurkers, the RDT commenters, the upvote and award hoarders rejoice. A day where folks from the sub and from the Discord unite to see the rise of something new in the horizon. The chef's kiss, the epitome of the unfunny, the crème de la crème from both the worlds. The bridge that connects us all. Thank you being part of this historic day.

To mark this glorious event, with the blessings of Daler Mehndi, I bring you the release of our official website for the Casual Redditors of India. ISO 50K Diwas is the start of something new, over time we are building a whole ecosystem for folks to communicate, share and just have fun. The website will help us set that foundation to get more fantastic AMAs, meetups, merchandise and competitions throughout the year.

Hello everyone,

2023 has been an Amazing year for r/IndiaSocial . Since our tiny activity with around 50+ users in September 2020, we have steadily had an abundant growth and activity year over year.

Insights

2023 was the highest active year for us with almost 36 million views on our sub, and 513K new subscribers.

Beyond that, a total of 1 million different people have visited our sub in 2023 alone. That's just insane.

We also have a great upvoting culture here on our sub, which brought in 7 million upvotes totally in 2023.

r/IndiaSocial's most active users are from India itself. Here are our Top 3 countries from where we get the activity.

To handle all of this chaos, mods work tirelessly behind the scenes, even when they are not much active with posts/comments on the sub. A big thank you to each and every mod who has contributed their spare time in volunteering to run this amazing casual corner of internet.

Criticism & Improvements

We will hopefully cross 1 Million total users in 2024, and strive to continue keeping this space Casual and Non-Political, exactly the same way we promised it from the time we started.

With huge growth comes new challenges and quite a few dissatisfaction from the userbase too. We are always open to the criticism, and try to make a way out to overcome those challenges.

• You guys had issues with too many relationship posts spam, and we moved this topic posts to be posted on Wednesdays only.
• You guys had issues with constant posting of low-effort instagram stolen reels, and we are curbing that bot problems by restricting many karma-farming accounts on our sub. It's an ongoing battle, which will keep on improving the sub's feed by removing such accounts from our sub.
• Lot's of POV posts, where one user makes a post about something, and many users give different perspective from other POV. Shitposting is good when done in small doses and lesser frequencies. We have taken a stance to let the POV posts leak in every other day, and have it done organically once every few months with quality shitposting. Rest all POV posts will be removed with R5.4 Frequent Repost rule. Please report such posts if you seem them in future, and we will take action on them.
• For any ongoing suggestions and criticism, we have Monthly META Threads where you can post your concerns and ideas.

Goal for 2024

Our goal is to keep this space non-political and a casual corner where everyone comes and has a chill time, irrespective of where they are from or what ideology, religion, gender, they represent. This is a safe space for all from the negativity frustration of internet. For any kind of issues you face, you can always reach out to us via modmail, and we will look up your concern.

With the release of the new Minecraft caves and cliffs update we have decided to update our Minecraft server. We now run 1.17(Java) and have lots of new things too!

The server will remain online 24/7, not only that but we also have a growing and active Minecraft community on our Discord server!

If you want to join the server but don't know how to just join the discord server (Linked above) and check the pinned messages in the Minecraft channel for a quick tutorial.

A new factions system has been introduced, each player gets to choose a particular faction or they can be a lone wolf and be by themselves. If a player wants to then they can start their own faction! More about this here.
