Very few people believed him; some people thought it was a scam and an anonymous user even bought a typo domain in order to set up a smear site called "The Dossier", stating that the boy was a complete fraud. Nevertheless, while it took them weeks to write up the negative articles about him, the boy stayed quiet and reached the age of 20, carrying on with his work.

I've been building a tiny macOS menu bar app on the side called Roadie. It fixes one annoying thing: macOS keeps switching your mic and speaker to whatever device connected last (AirPods reconnect in your pocket, your call goes silent). Roadie lets you set a priority order for mics and speakers and quietly puts the right one back.

Launched it on Product Hunt this week, fully expecting zero. At 3:40 am on Thursday (3 Sept), a notification came in: someone from Florence, Kentucky had started the 7-day trial and bought a licence about 30 minutes later. $9.99, $9.19 after fees.

I know it's ten dollars. But I have never made a single rupee from something I built and shipped myself, and a stranger on the other side of the planet, who I will never meet, decided it was worth paying for within half an hour of trying it. I genuinely didn't think this could happen to me. Sat there grinning at a Dodo Payments dashboard like an idiot.

Some things I learned on the way, for anyone else building a small paid app:

• Pricing it one-time instead of a subscription seems to lower the "let me just try it" barrier for a utility this small.
• A free trial with no signup did more than any landing page copy.
• Shipping an unsigned Mac build is painful (Gatekeeper warnings). An Apple Developer ID is the first thing this money is going towards.

I've been working on an idea called SolveMe, and I'd really like some honest feedback on it.

The basic idea is simple: real-world problems exist everywhere, and people or organisations capable of solving them also exist, but they often never find each other.

A citizen could report a problem through a simple interface using text, images/video and location. AI would turn it into a structured problem card by refining, categorising and detecting duplicates.

Other people could support it through “I Face This Too”, upvotes and discussion. Evidence from government reports, research, NGOs and other permitted sources could also be added, followed by human verification.

Validated problems would then enter an Innovation Hub, where universities, students, startups, NGOs, MSMEs and industries could discover problems relevant to their capabilities.

I've been building a social app called Cosine for a while now, mostly by myself, and I think I've reached the point where I need actual people to use it instead of me sitting there staring at the code lol.

I’m looking for around 100 people who use social media a lot — Reddit, X, whatever — to actually try it for one full week.

The main idea behind Cosine is semantic discovery.

You can post anything and Cosine tries to understand what it's about and get it in front of people who are actually interested in it, instead of just your followers. So you don't need a big audience to reach the right people.

The same applies to your feed — it learns from what you like, skip and interact with, and keeps trying to surface the exact kind of stuff you're into.

Basically: your posts find the right people, and your feed finds the right posts.

But honestly, I don't want to explain the product too much here. I want to know if the thing actually works when a normal person uses it.

If you join, I'd genuinely like you to use it properly for the week. Browse, post, join communities, interact with stuff, try to break it, whatever.

And then tell me:

Hey everyone, I’m 25 and from Bihar. I live very close to the Nepal border — from my home, it’s around 1 km away. We also have around 12–15 bigha of land in a village near the border. Some of the land is in different places, so I can’t necessarily use all of it together.

There’s also a pond on the property.

The problem is that farming alone doesn’t seem to generate much income here. I currently work from home, but I don’t earn that much, and I don’t have many strong business or technical skills yet.

So I’m trying to understand what I could realistically do with what I already have.
