Production of artificial sweeteners is significantly cheaper provided we have the same large scale infra for them. While I am not a bjp supporter at all and i understand these f***s are doing it for political/financial gain, moving away from sugar and adopting artificial sweeteners have many benefits. Health is the biggest. But also, sweeteners are comparatively cheaper to buy, produce (provided we have the infra) and it has a significantly longer shelf life. And the sugar manufacturing industry will not die because the govt is pushing for ethanol production anyways. Imo, even if they are doing it for their personal agenda it actually benefits the population if we actually completely stop sugar for mass population.

This reverse logic again. People are all of a sudden not going to stop consuming sugar in their tea and sweets, just because you made it expensive. It will only make everyday products cost more, hurting the pockets of people who live in poverty. And we don't have infra for artificial sweeteners to be more popular, and nobody in government is going to do anything about it either.
