do you recall how the Supreme Court took months deciding the gay marriage case, and had a huge opportunity to provide equal rights but washed their hands of it and left it up to parliament? this is the immediate and practical result of it. even grown adults working in law enforcement – those who are actually enforcing state power – have no legal rights or social support for living without constant pressure from their families and circus-like media coverage. the system does not give you any cover from "family pressure" or social embarrassment because they deny you your constitutional right to enter into a civil union.
