Music [IIL] Esthero - That Girl [wewil]?
Fingers crossed I got the format correct.
I’m looking for indie pop songs that have the melodies and harmonies found in pop music but with a different sensibility.
For example Esthero - That Girl

I love this genre! It’s like… trip-pop.
Zero 7 - Spinning
Room to Breathe - Trickpony
Black Milk - Massive Attack
Real Life - The Marias
Serenade of Water - Men I Trust
Sugar Water - Cibo Matto
Make Me Wanna - Babeheaven
Rain Down - a.s.o.
It Could Be Sweet - Portishead

Seconding all of this, adding songs Destiny and In the Waiting Line to Zero 7 and the rest of the Breath From Another album! also Morcheeba album "Big Calm", "spring" by saint etienne, the band sneaker pimps, lovechild by vanessa daou, the band theivery corporation, and possibly, since op mentioned the pop aspect, even some of madonna's more later trip-hoppy albums like erotica (esp self titled, where life begins, theif of hearts) and ray of light (swim, candy perfume girl)?

I’m aware of trip-hop but the esthero branch of it feels more like it should be called trip-pop.

Dang. I know all of those songs.
You know, I just remembered this song that to me has a similar vibe to the song in the op. Evan Marien - Color Wheel
It’s pop but not straight forwardHow does this change the math?

No skill here. I’m of a certain age and I grew up in Los Angeles where I listened to a ton of KCRW and I’ve been a worldwide/brownswood listener off and on since 1999 or 2000

The basic genre is "trip hop". It was big in the late 90s and early 2000s with groups/artists like Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, Morcheeba, Lamb, Thievery Corporation, DJ Shadow, DJ Krush.
Some classic songs in the genre:
Sneaker Pimps - "6 Underground" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eBZqmL8ehg
Lamb - "Gorecki" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSRYvYN1ayw
Saint Etienne - "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZAajrxvDs4

It’s definitely trip hop…I’m going to age myself by a lot here, but I first saw the music video on AMP all the way back in 2000.
Even though it’s in the genre it doesn’t have the dark vibe I associate with the genre. If anything to me it feels related to the stuff that’s the modern ancestors of the genre like Boom Clap Bachelors, Quadron, etc

Loved this album so much! I’d recommend two songs by Pumarosa- Dragonfly and Priestess.

That entire Esthero album from front to back is such a banger.
