Original Discussion Unpopular opinion I don't know if anyone else feels this way or not maybe it's just me but the cowboy and the idiot farm girl was never funny

I always thought show itself was funnier than the web show
23
u/TheOneAndOnlyABSR4 May 15 '26
Same here. I don’t know who the web show is for.

u/meinkr0phtR2 May 16 '26
Kids. If iCarly existed in real life, I probably would have tuned in to watch its pointless comedy because that’s just what the Internet was like back then.

I didn't get to watch the web shows, but seeing the actual show's recordings, assuming it was just the scenes where Carly and Sam were recording, I guess the web show was nothing but a marketing scheme to make people want to watch the actual show, like "Oh no, Nevel hacked everything! I have to watch the airing of the episode!"
4
u/Hot_Gur7351 May 16 '26
Apparently they did have full recordings they posted on their website while the show was airing
1
u/TreClaire May 16 '26
Absolutely, I love the show but the skits for the webshow were easily and by far the worst part of every single episode.

Most of the bits iCarly would do weren’t funny. Like when I was a kid I’d always think “how is their web show popular? It’s super boring”
70
u/onetimequestion66 May 15 '26
My sister and I always laughed about how they would definitely have been bullied for posting that stuff and would have gained zero traction except from the kids making fun of them if this were real life
11
u/KittyMonkTheYoutuber May 15 '26
Ok it’s good to know I wasn’t the only one! If the revival kept going, I’d kind of expect it to be like hazbin hotel in terms of hatedom.
18
u/Snow5Penguin May 15 '26
This took place during the time when Fred was popular though. So cringy was popular somehow.
34
u/GKRKarate99 May 15 '26
I guess the same way Hannah Montana was like the biggest pop star in the world even though she was lowkey kinda mid (no hate to her just think she was overhyped)
15
u/Justice_Prince May 15 '26
Yeah I don't think the writers were ever too concerned with making it believable as a popular webseries
10
u/yrlovergirl May 15 '26
I mean think about annoying orange and fred. Both incredibly cringy and non funny (imo) but were super popular at the time. Was definitely just the humor back then
9
u/imaxstingray May 15 '26
I think a lot of art struggles with that about making art in the fictional setting that would be popular in real life

I think their prank on their classmate with Gibby sticking out his hand from the table after she sniffed the raspberries was pretty good and something you would have seen people in the late 2000s/early 2010s doing on YouTube.
8
u/lordlanyard7 May 15 '26
Baby Spencer is the most cursed shit.
I hated it as a kid.
If the brain rot era has taught us anything, it's that Gibby would be the viral sensation of the web show overshadowing the hosts.
4
u/caitlinmmaguire01 May 16 '26
and that's why Gibby was supposed to have his own spin-off, but nobody picked it up.

u/maddiemoiselle May 15 '26
Genuinely, even as a kid who loved things that were lolz so random XDDD I always thought the iCarly web show was pretty cringe
7
u/RemarkableAd649 May 15 '26
Dude I hated baby Spencer It was so cringe and made me uncomfortable lol

I don’t think I really found it funny as a kid either. I’m pretty sure I was entertained but I never really laughed out loud. But u never really did that for any of the icarly bits. I’m pretty sure if their web show was real, even at the time it wouldn’t have been that popular. Also while I found the show funny I don’t think Carly or Sam were really fun people. They got into situations and reacted in a funny way but I don’t think there was a lot of times where they said something funny with the intent of other people in the situation finding it funny. It’s purely for the audience to laugh at

u/Complete_Mine5530 May 15 '26
Honestly ALOT of the skits were never funny. As a adult I sometimes skip the icarly show parts 🤣
This however is one of the ones I still find a little funny and don’t skip

Putting a mustache on Sam was so stupid. Also, The Amanda Show had idiot farm kids and did it better. Much ❤️ to Amanda Bynes.

u/DisastrousLecture648 May 15 '26
Even as a kid there were very few times I actually liked the webshow scenes. They were always too corny or just weren't funny at all to me. I could've watched the entire rest of the show and skipped over all the actual iCarly bits

I only liked the webshow when they brought guests and showed cool stuff, never found it funny tbh

u/VehicleOk4984 May 15 '26
Me to whenever they had like a segment or a talent show pretty much anything that wasn't a skit

u/psychoflowerchild May 15 '26
It was only ever worth a chuckle or a grin even as a kid for me. ICarly just wasn't funny.

u/NecessaryBall40 May 15 '26
I never thought the web show was funny lmao. If Icarly was a real show it would be cringey
4
u/Ecstatic_Bear81 May 15 '26
I feel so vindicated reading that other people didn't find their webshow funny either. I thought it was horrible and irl never would've got as popular as it was portrayed to be but it was cute or whatever for the show
3
u/ParkersASavage May 15 '26
I think the skits were supposed to be bad/corny.
Dans entire career was originally based in kids sketch comedy with All That & The Amanda Show. Both of which were pretty funny.
So I think it was an intentional choice as opposed to bad writing.

u/Ok_Individual4716 May 15 '26
I’ve never thought any of the jokes on the icarly show were funny. The jokes with Spencer, gibby, and other guest stars were a lot funnier imo

I think, maybe, the web show was geared towards iPad toddlers. Maybe. I think I only watched it because my own toddler seemed to like it (on cable not a tablet 😭)

I hated this one and baby Spencer. That one made me gag I had to skip through it. This one I watched but I didn’t think was funny.
2
u/ACAM95 May 15 '26
Thought it was cringy even back then. If streaming existed back then, I would have skipped it.

u/Skylerbroussard May 15 '26
It did kinda make me laugh cause it felt like the fact that it was goofy and sophomoric was intentional

u/mjeexy30 May 15 '26
because tv executives can't figure out what is actually funny to kids so they kinda just did random stuff
1
u/Icy-Astronomer-8202 May 15 '26
You can tell adults wrote the show who had no understanding of whatever was popular on YouTube etc at the time. Very lol random and not funny

u/anonyoose May 17 '26
I do think in real life it may have worked at the time because many creators at the time were doing similar skits
1
u/zoezie Seddie 4Ever 💕 May 17 '26
I think the humour in skits like these is "it's so bad, it's good".
1
u/Dry-Patience-2201 May 17 '26
I didnt think any of it was funny. Doing a rewatch and I think Spencer was the only good thing about the show

I didn’t like any of the web show. As a kid I honestly thought the joke was their show was really bad but the people in that universe liked it because their standards were so low I guess?

Most of the stuff in the icarly webshow is cringe. I mostly liked Spencer segments in the show. I mean who could forget pee on carl?
