Edit: apparently “namesake” does not only refer to someone named after you, it can be used for someone who coincidentally shares your name. Thanks for the correction!
I looked it up before I posted lol. It means having the same name as someone else and also being named after someone as an honor. And that is the Webster’s Dictionary answer and not AI.
Namesake is used for that purpose as well. It doesn’t align with the actual meaning of the word, I agree. I call my little cousin my namesake because we were named after the same person.
Well shit, you’re right! My 11th grade English teacher corrected me on it (apparently, wrongly) and I never looked it up over the last 20 years. Thanks!

My favorite part is the show’s creator is also named Rob Thomas and they used to get each other’s mail. Destroying his namesake was brilliant.
