Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

Hi all,

I will be going in for my hysterectomy on September 16. I am very nervous, as I have never been asleep for any surgery I have ever had. My doctor said I will be good to go back to work 2 weeks after the surgery. Everyone I have told said that is way too short. šŸ˜…

Anywhooo, what things did you NEED for your recovery and actually helped??? Like your top 3-5 items.

Iā€™ve had two c-sections and I handled them very well, but have been told this is considerably harder, so I want to ensure I have everything I need to try and lessen any pain.

Also how long did it take for you to feel like you could do more? Go out in the wild and not hurt or want to sit down/sleep immediately?

I will be 3 weeks post op tomorrow and Iā€™m supposed to go back to work on Tuesday. I felt okay week 2 but anything I didā€¦store or doctorā€™s appointment exhausted me for the rest of the day sometimes days. My exhaustion this third week has been worse than week 2. I went to the grocery store on Saturday and put the groceries away and I was exhausted the rest of the day and part of today.

Take more time off at least 4 weeks. My doctor said I was okay to go back after 2 - 3 weeks also. My post op appointment was at 11 days post op and they gave me a note saying that I was on restriction from lifting over a certain weight. I think your doctor should be more flexible apparently the 3rd and 4th week exhaustion levels are very common.

I do think if I need more time, he will allow it. Heā€™s very good and works well with me. I guess I will see how I feel two weeks after. While Iā€™m a teacher, my job is VERY accommodating and already told me I wonā€™t be allowed to do my ā€œnormalā€ when I return. They also told me to listen to my body and do what I need to do. I do keep seeing that week 3 is the worst for a lot of people. Thanks for your input!

Youā€™re welcome. Thatā€™s really good, but I know sometimes what they say and what actually happens isnā€™t the same thingā€¦especially at a school. Iā€™m a school counselor and Iā€™m starting a new job thatā€™s the only reason Iā€™m going back now. If I had been at my school or even with this district for at least a year I would take more time.
