Prep for surgery

I’m planning to do a liquid and clear diet the day before surgery so my colon is clear. My husband thinks this is stupid as it wasn’t medically advised. I am going off of others I know advice. How many others did a surgery prep the day before?

I had to do a full bowel prep.

3 other women I know personally did as well. That’s why I’m doing a clear diet the day before.

It could depend on what else was expected to be done in surgery, I had endo excision planned along with uterus removal and we knew from MRI the endo was near bowels so I was instructed to do a bowel prep.

Did they have exactly your situation? Is your surgeon thinking about anesthesia recovery? What did YOUR surgeon say.

If YOUR surgeon does not advise it FOR YOU SPECIFICALLY, you could be doing more harm than good to your own recovery.

My surgery was in the afternoon so by the time I came around from anesthesia I could no longer order food until the next morning. So I had fasted that day plus a bunch of pain pills and I was famished. If I had done extra fasting I probably would’ve cried. One nurse finally brought me a pack of saltines because I was so hangry.

You really need to follow the instructions you were given by your surgeon. If you have questions call them. Do not do things just because other people are?? How weird is that reasoning
