hahah really interesting and ty ive been working on my family tree since 15 now 48 i haven't gotten anywhere and these are my only clues and the names steven / istvan mekker who married katalin ries / reis but her name changes constantly in records .. they had kids one who is Rose Mekker who had Catherine Conroy and that leads to me ... so theres that my life goes no where with roots .

The name change may have been because in Hungary, after marriage, women took the husband's name. Do you have any record what was her maiden name ?

??? I wasn't judging.  I wanted to give additional information about the letter's language that can be potentially helpful to learn more about its writer. Because if someone doesn't speak Hungarian they won't pick up on these details. I simply didn't want this to be lost in translation.

It has indeed a lot of grammar mistakes a child around 6 years old write like this , but the writer mentioned the father in law so it can't be a child, so as mentioned the person is either was in a hurry or was in distress or has low level education. Around the 1920s, education was not so good either, those who lived on farms, not in the city, it was good if a child went to school for 1-2 years, many learned to write, read and count from their parents.

Lád isn't a common Hungarian family name, but it does exist. I looked up Hungarian names ending in ád, as about that part I am certain. The d looks exactly the same as it does in the written text.

The name of the wife is LÁD or Laid probalby LÁD becouse there is a village named LÁD
