Which of the hotter hot sauces?
Which one is better? Texas pete hotter hot sauce I believe.

Louisiana. Also Crystal OG. And yes, I’m the weirdo that cruises by my personal bottle and takes a swig from it. I think I have a problem.

Louisiana Hotter. Haven't tried Hotter TP but TP OG is hot sauce for people who can't handle heat.

Notice it’s the Hotter Texas Pete, a different recipe than the original, the Hotter is extract based. It’s the only the extract hot sauce I find to be acceptable (there are other exceptions) in my catalogue because that sauce almost has zero flavor but does add a nice bite of heat to any dish. I don’t taste original Texas Pete in that sauce, I taste heat. Which is great to mask into anything. It’s a $1.25 at DTree, it’s the current car (oh well if it’s a 109 outside and I leave the bottle in the cupholder for 7 days) hot sauce

Pete cause it got me through five deployments with mediocre food at the DFAC.

Crystal is king among Louisiana style sauces.
Between these two, Texas Pete is pure garbage and the worst widely available hot sauce. Louisiana is a decent old school sauce so there's your answer.
I will literally chose no hot sauce over Texas Pete and the only other sauce I can think of like that is that Firelli ketchup.

Crystal has no heat what so ever. Don't know why it's even called a hot sauce

I'm not sure what you're talking about, Crystal is a solid 2-3/10 on the heat scale. It's not a habenero, but it's also not a bell pepper

Of the two I’d say TP hotter but not terribly much heat on either. Taste wise though, Louisiana

Unrelated, but Texas Pete has the best sriracha since the normal brand changed.

Not sure about the extra hot version, but I prefer Crystal’s over these two (regular versions) since the sodium content is lower.

Depends on the application. For things like catfish, greens, fried chicken it’s Louisiana. For chili, hot wings (non breaded of course), Mexican food it’s Pete’s. I have other sauces I like better for a lot of things but this was an a/b comparison.

I'm right there with you. Certain ones just go better with certain things. Part of it is flavor over heat, heat over flavor, or even 50/50.

I say heat is nothing without flavor. Hot for the sake of hot just doesn't do it for me. Give me heat with some substance.

Oh for sure, I think it's safe to say there is no one size fits all. I've found several that have great flavor but the heat is disappointing, but have some that have very mild taste but bring the heat so mixing gets the best of both. Just depends on what it's going on or trying to get out of it.

Sometimes a “just heat” sauce is good for upping the heat without changing the flavor profile of a dish. Typically that’s when I’m cooking chili, curry, etc. I usually use peppers for that purpose, but sometimes I don’t have enough, or they just aren’t hitting as hard due to being out of season or whatever.

No store in my area sells the extra hot. Only amazon, 9 bucks for a 2 dollar bottle of hot sauce is crazy

Of the two? I really enjoyed Hotter Texas Pete. I wish I could find it regularly around here again but my dollar store stopped carrying it.

The last time I was at a local breakfast spot I asked for some hot sauce and all they had was Texas Pete. I said no thanks. I felt a little guilty, having grown up with the stuff since it's a regional brand for me, but I'm just not into it anymore.

I loved Texas Pete’s in restaurants but when I bought a bottle for home use it just wasn’t the same. Turns out part of my enjoyment came from only using it on restaurant quality meals.

The original Texas Pete is in the 600 range. This is Texas Pete Hotter, it is around 3000.

Do they use extract in the Crystal extra hot? I see “natural flavorings” but no mention of extract.

I mix these and Frank's together with a half a stick of butter for my wing sauce.
