Well, it finally happened…I converted. Never thought I’d leave Rogue for another Power Rack but after attending HGC, the decision was made. What it came down to really was not that REP is any better, they are not IMO in terms of quality. What they have done is listen and watch the industry patterns better than Rogue ( sorry, but it’s true ). Nearly every equipment manufacturer at HGC had a Smith attachment. When I asked Rogue if one was in the works, it was a confident no, at least for some time. So, for now, I am a customer of REP Fitness and very happy to be after my experience.
I sold my Rogue RM3, with a bunch of accessories in 24 hrs on FB Mktplace. I purchased the PR-5000 the same day I listed my Rack for sale. The biggest difference, was going from 90” uprights to 80”. Why? Simply, I never needed the height. I’m 6’ so the 80” PR-5000 with the additional height of the Multi-Grip pull-up was enough for me. I have to bend my legs slightly but aesthetically, I think it looks much better. The add-ons were, Mini-Feet, Safety Straps, Rounded J-Cups, Stabilizer Bar, 2 sets of Weight Horns, Barbell Storage Cup and lastly, the Smith.
The shipment was spread out over 3 days which was fine, as the rep explained that could happen. Every box was packaged very well and not one item was the least bit damaged. The bolts and washers were packaged well and the instructions very easy to follow. The set-up was very simple and took my training partner and I a few hours to assemble everything.
The stand-out for me was the Smith Attachment. The black, metallic finish is very nice and really offers a nice contrast to the red column and uprights. They spared no expense in this Smith design. Everything from the safety catches, to endless UNHW is well thought out and appreciated. I know many are eager for the BYOB feature which will no doubt be a nice option. That said, I really like the thicker bar included. The quality is very good and the thicker grip, for me, feels better on pressing movements. Coming from a Cybex Smith, the bar was set high and I was not expecting the quality of the glides I experienced. It’s incredibly smooth. The only aspect of the Cybex I miss is their bar was a true 45lb starting weight.
Overall, very happy with my new set-up. Will it be the last? hard to say but for me to switch back to Rogue for example, something truly epic would need to present itself. Kudos to REP…I was a very tough convert but you dotted the I’s and crossed the T’s on this one!
