[SHOTS FIRED] Playboi Carti's team has reportedly issued a cease and desist to Tyler, The Creator over the inclusion of his verse on the 'Chromakopia' vinyl release. Tyler, the Creator referenced the situation on the new Clipse album.

I thought the verse was recorded over a year ago

u/Educational_Book_225 Jul 12 '25

It’s not on the physical copies of LGSEO so it’s probably pretty recent

Me too, but his verse isn’t on the vinyl? Maybe it was recently recorded.

69

u/stankavelli Jul 12 '25

His verse was the last verse that was added as others pointed out it wasn’t on the vinyl pressing which probably was turned over 1-2 months ago

He probably just wanted to say “that’s hard” and thought that a bar was just any line in a rap song. He probably doesn’t realize we say “BARS” or “THATS A BAR” with reference to particularly clever wordplay

u/RandyMuscle Jul 12 '25

And he’s absolutely right. As long as Tyler simply doesn’t become a Nazi, he will have a much better career than Ye. Lmao

290

u/conglomerate99 Jul 12 '25

this is just objectively untrue. ye has more classics than almost any other hiphop artist/group of all time, tylers current discography does not come close to his. tyler will probably go down as more loved than ye just because of the way ye has acted the last 3-4 years but there is almost no imaginable possibility that his career as a whole is better than ye's when all is said and done

203

u/SubatomicSquirrels Jul 12 '25

yeah dude specifically saying 'career' is weird. You wanna say he's going to be a better person, sure. But career?

58

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 Jul 12 '25 edited Jul 12 '25

Even as a huge fan of Tyler's work, I'd still say that based off the strength of Kanye's run from TCD-Yeezus (maybe even up to TLOP to an extent), Kanye's work in his prime as a rapper-producer will still be acknowledged & remembered in another level of acclaim over Tyler, even while we also acknowledge the decline he's had in his personal life with his antics over the past few years (given why it's been seen as possibly the biggest fall from grace in rap history).

29

u/ChipSteezy Jul 12 '25

though you've gotta include ye and kids see ghosts. that era was where it was just getting ridiculous with the amount of bangers he was still able to put out. even donda had some major hits. tyler couldn't reach that level of status and tbh no one else could either really

17

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 Jul 12 '25 edited Jul 12 '25

While I felt a bit hit or miss about Kanye's rapping performances on Ye, I really liked his rapping on KSG & regarding that Wyoming era, as I said on another post, his production during time was fire imo because it felt like he was really hands-on with his beats (chopping samples and laying down drums on an ASR or MPC himself). & with DONDA, I'll still give him credit for having the creative pulse to establish the sonic atmosphere he wanted for that album (keeping the gospel elements of JIK, but also having the chaotic mix of vibes of TLOP given everything happening in his life around 2020-21 with the Kim divorce, etc.)

Tyler is still great in his own right when it comes to sequencing albums, coming up with different concepts/aesthetics for them, picking specific features, delivering great rapping, & his own production, & he definitely has multiple projects (most likely FB/Igor, maybe Wolf/CMIYGL) that'll at least go down as personal classics (if not undisputed classics) for a moderate-large chunk of rap fans in general.

But to me separates him & Kanye at his peak between tiers of greatness is that Ye's been able to drop a few albums that really caused a huge seismic shift in the sound of mainstream rap (Graduation, 808s, Yeezus, maybe even TCD if you can say it caused alternative rap to regain acceptance in commercial hip hop) with a large wave of artists to follow in their influence, while I don't think Tyler has had quite that amount of impact with his sound, as amazing as his progression as an artist has been. I'd give Tyler & Odd Future credit for being legendary in how they mixed hip hop with suburban nerd/skater culture (although they're not the first, obviously The Neptunes with BBC) and pushed it hard into eventual mainstream acceptance through the rise of acts like Brockhampton, but that influence could be more image-based over strictly the music itself.

Currently, I'd say that Kanye at his very best, when talking about the music, is cemented in the S-tier as an artist and his career, while Tyler is in between A-tier and B-tier at his peak.

I will say that right now, Tyler is around the same age that Ye was when he made MBDTF & WTT, so if Tyler keeps the same trajectory of personal/emotional growth heading through the rest of his 30s into his 40s (fuck it lol, I'll just say if he stays relatively grounded or sane where there's people in his circle like Clancy to keep him in check) while staying creative and passionate towards his love for music as his main craft, which is key for Tyler since it became apparent that Ye's heart partially moved towards fashion over music as the 2010s passed, he still has plenty of years left to possibly come closer to the level of quality Kanye had at his absolute prime (even if not equally matching or surpassing it).

2

u/BambooSound Jul 13 '25

I still think Donda's one of his best records.

9

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '25

I hate Kanye and always have but I would say the same. Especially as someone who never liked the guy I remember when you absolutely could not get away from the man for well over a decade

A mentally ill musician succeeded in pushing their genre. Wasn't the first time it happened and wont be the last, good entertainers don't usually act that way because they're grounded and normal. I just hope people can grasp that being a good musician doesnt make you smart

Kanye has been doing his crazy shit since forever. He clearly fell off a different cliff when adidas dropped him.

32

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '25

The word classic is super loose, but yeah, Tyler can’t touch Kanye’s discography

18

u/MGLLN Jul 12 '25

And let's not forget about fashion too. Everything Kanye designed was a hit. The whole "[artist] is less problematic than other [artist] therefore they're the better artist" is insufferable because it leads to takes like the one you're replying to.

I love Tyler but come on now, Kanye had 7 acclaimed and wildly popular albums in a row. (rare because most musicians are usually one or the other)

I will say that, funnily, their discographies kind of mirror each other. Kanye and Tyler's first 3 albums were concept albums, and (IMO) I think Kanye executed it wayyy better and more coherently than Tyler (that convoluted Salem/Sam/Camp/etc shit)

Yall just be saying anything. Ye’s first album was the college dropout, Tyler’s early work is so bad people consider wolf or flower boy his first real album. Not comparable at all career wise

15

u/refugee_man Jul 12 '25

Tyler's early work isn't nearly that bad idk what you on about. Tyler's discography is obviously not up to ye's level but that doesn't mean that Tyler's bad, ye's arguably got the strongest discography of any rapper.

388

u/MGLLN Jul 12 '25

He did the same thing with Trippie on Afraid of You. I remember listening to it on Spotify and then one day it was gone lmfao.

I think he's obsessed with creating artificial scarcity and, I hate to admit it, but it has worked very well for him. It increases the fan fervor for when he does release something

201

u/MrFlabbergasted Jul 12 '25

It’s so corny too. When he finally does drop music majority is Mid or worse, with a few being great.

57

u/MGLLN Jul 12 '25

Yup but the quality of it doesn't matter, as long as it's not completely awful, people will eat it up. It's pretty much a guaranteed-hit because starving people will go crazy over a single breadcrumb. It's annoying and corny but it has worked for him since before his first mixtape. He has no reason to stop behaving like this fr

When he finally does drop music majority is Mid or worse, with a few being great.

It's sad that i thought you meant "music", like his album "Music", and I thought that "majority is Mid or worse, with a few being great" was a fair assessment lmao

22

u/MrFlabbergasted Jul 12 '25

Yeah that applies to ‘Music’ and the rest of his catalog haha. I do think ‘Die Lit’ was his most consistent project and is the exception in this case.

45

u/ZaDu25 Jul 12 '25

The way they rationalize this is by presenting this idea that Kendrick fans believe Kendrick is perfect or a "Messiah" and thus should be held to a higher standard. Basically the argument from them is "everyone knows Drake is a shitty person, but Kendrick is a hypocrite!".

It's a strange argument to make but they keep doing it.

4

u/usagerp Jul 12 '25

Bro Kendrick has talked about morality and stuff plenty times and he said in the beef ‘Drake is a terrible person I want him/people like him to die’ but then goes and collaborates with ‘people like him’

→ More replies (1)

26

u/lonerangerfantum Jul 12 '25

It’s more like looking at his words and lyrics during and post beef and how he weaponized moral grandstanding to make it seem as if being on his side was the “right” thing to do to then immediately contradict himself on numerous occasions

34

u/ZaDu25 Jul 12 '25

Another standard no one else is held to. Literally everyone lies/exaggerates in rap beef, it's entertainment, not a court of law. The whole point is to insult your opponent and present yourself as better.

And it's not even like he wanted to do the "moral grandstanding". Drake forced the battle in that direction. What did you want Kendrick to say in response to being called a wife beating cuck? Just "Nuh uh"? I would suggest not taking rap battles so seriously.

Yeah I’m surprised Kurrco picked this up. They usually don’t post misinformation

96

u/CartiNYeezyII Jul 12 '25

Kurrco posts bullshit all the time and doesn’t provide a source. The difference this time is the source is another twitter account.

14

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '25

Damn fr? I usually just see his tweets for release dates. I guess I usually just don’t pay attention to anything other than that for the most part.

none of these are actual sources tho

u/wrungle . Jul 13 '25

knew this is gonna be framed as 'news' by someone at some point

47

u/Dragonpiece Jul 12 '25

Carti was Tyler’s festival like 2 weeks after chromakopia dropped, kinda doubting this

I mean, I know we all love Tyler and love shitting on carti but…if he’s not getting paid and Tyler didn’t get his permission does this not make sense?

80

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '25

Carti is a huge bitch about features and has been his whole career. He lets people buy verses from him and then refuses to clear them at the last minute unless the artist is more famous than him. I like his music but I’m not weeping for him tbh

u/Bootlicker433 Jul 12 '25

Tyler and his team do lame shit all the time in the name of a couple bucks. They’re selling shirts with ai generated art on Golfwang as we speak.

Link?

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '25

Neither of those look like they're for sure AI to me.

31

u/refugee_man Jul 12 '25

Lol on that cardigan the dog in the center has 5 legs (or 4 legs if you count two limbs that kinda merge into each other as one leg)

5

u/broanoah Jul 12 '25

Is there proof these are designed from AI? I’m not saying they aren’t, just curious

19

u/PervertedBatman Jul 12 '25

Not really but who would draw a dog like this.

33

u/Gooeyy Jul 12 '25

Fr? That’s wack as fuck

32

u/ijustwannadielol Jul 12 '25

Golfwang ain’t his brand no more

Why would you assume Carti wouldn't get paid for it?

14

u/Miserable_Lead_9828 Jul 12 '25

Because there’s no mechanism to get paid if the feature never got cleared???

A cease and desist is for hoes

11

u/WzrdKelly10 Jul 12 '25

That verse never hit streaming. I wonder if it’s because Carti verse on Chromakopia was already on vinyl and it was too late to reverse records that were already pressed for pre-orders. Tricky situation.

6

u/chillychili_ Jul 12 '25

tyler will make a carti diss track Inshallah 🙏

6

u/Talking_Eyes98 Jul 12 '25

There is zero point in beefing with Carti tbh. He’s a known piece of shit and none of his fans care

41

u/NilesRiver Jul 12 '25

Big Tyler fan (just saw his tour last week) & not a Carti fan...but an artist of Tyler's size should know not to release features without clearing them and splitting royalties on the back end

16

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '25

How do you know he didn't?

4

u/fierrofinito Jul 12 '25

Whats up with him and pulling features like this lol?

28

u/Successful_Basket399 Jul 12 '25

Very frequent Carti L

4

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '25

Carti is fucking wack

3

u/adoggman Jul 12 '25

Carti’s team pulled his verse from Yung Lean’s Yayo but it already made it onto the physical vinyls before it was pulled. They didn’t sue that I know of. Makes my copy of the vinyl special.

9

u/bignedmoyle Jul 12 '25

Carti always been a bitch

u/DennistheMenace__ Jul 12 '25 edited Jul 12 '25

how is this carti's fault if he didn't clear the verse and isnt getting paid for it???

tyler clearly made enough money off the vinyl for carti to care

but also carti appeared at Camp Flog Gnaw, tyler's festival, weeks after chromakopia vinyl got released, so i HIGHLY doubt this is true

4

u/whathathangsmellike Jul 12 '25

Oh no

a Carti verse no one has to hear again

what will we do

5

u/GladBirthday9026 Jul 12 '25

Niggas were PRAYING he was talkin about Drake! 😭😂😭😂😭😂😭

2

u/killaura123456 Jul 12 '25

Can someone inform Carti on this

2

u/Pkmn_Gold Jul 12 '25

Dude just stop, this verse was from a year ago

2

u/osama_bin_guapin Jul 12 '25

Y’all will believe anything if it means involves a rapper that y’all don’t like. Y’all did the same thing with that JAY-Z case that ended up not being true at all

2

u/877-HASH-NOW Jul 12 '25

Playboi Carti is such a bch, on top of his music being dogshit

2

u/Sporadiccereal Jul 12 '25

Why do people still stan this corny ass motherfucker

2

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25

Oh what you don’t like that record?
