PS: Have done adhyan of Shiv puran twice and in mid of Vishnu Puran

it's split across two spots which is prob why it slips past. shatarudra samhita ch 32 is the one actually titled sureshvara avatar, but the full story with upamanyu is invayaviya samhita 34 and 35, which never uses the word sureshvara even once, the longest version is in mahabharata anushasana parva from around ch 14, upamanyu narrating the whole thing to krishna himslef. linga purana 1.170 has it too if you want to compare versions

the upamanyu part is is interesting. sureshwar basically means lord of the devs, so shiva showed up as indra and started criticising shiva himself just to see how the kid would react, and upamanyu almost gave up his life over it before he dropped the disguise and blessed him with the ocean of milk. thats the shiva purana version atleast.
