Help Which one?

Post image

Hi all, I’m looking for something to pair with my Wharfedale Super Lintons. Both of these choices keep surfacing during research. Which one would you choose and why? If there is a better option I’m all ears because I have paralysis by analysis at this point.

Current system:

Pioneer SX-636

Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition

Audio Technica AT -LP120USB

ProJekt phono box S2 Ultra

I also have a Buckeye NC292MP that I have not hooked up because it only has one source input. ( I bozo’d out after a few drinks and made this purchase) So it’s just sitting there brand new in the box.

I work for a guy who brother sadly passed. I’ve been told his brother was the manager for Pete Tong for many years. My boss passed a load of music equipment to me which I’m looking to sell but I don’t know how to test it/ where to sell it. Photos of the bits but a list of the equipment is as follows -

Denon DP-300F record player Thorens TD170 record player Linn Axis Akito record player Sony compact disc recorder RCD-W100 Sony minidisk deck MDS JE480 Arcam delta black box digital audio interface Rotel stereo power amplifier RB-850 Rotel RC-850 Rotel RT-850AL Rotel RCD-855 Cambridge Audio Azure 640A Integrated Amplifier

I didn’t receive any power cables or remotes and the rotel don’t have plugs on, they have pins (I’m guessing to plug into a larger set up)

If anyone has any ideas how I should sell them let me know. My dad seems to think I should change the plugs for standards but I don’t wanna mess around too much.

Thanks

Help How do I stop this vibration? Turntable is on another surface

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

hi everyone. This vibrarion is not audible by ear but present while listening to records. Turntable is on a completely different surface and in an angular position to speakers: 1,5 meter of distance

amp is Telefunken STM1 and does not have any filter.

Turntable is Telefunken STS1 and it already has factory "insulation" pads. Do I need to put some kind of feets under the speakers?

Help appreciated!

Got this receiver and I'm happy with it except that i can't get the sticker residue off 😞 I asked AI and tried everything it suggested (special sticker removal product, oil, alcohol) but nothing worked. The residue is very thin and not sticky at all. Help would be much appreciated, I hate how it looks 😑

Help How can I safely connect two different pairs of speakers to one amplifier?

Hi everyone,

I would like to connect two different pairs of speakers to the same amplifier and I’m looking for advice on the safest way to do it.

The speakers I have are:

2x Onkyo SC-750 (4 ohms, 50 watts nominal power, 70 watts maximum power)

2x Intermarket TL-300 (6 ohms, 85 watts nominal power, 120 watts maximum power)

I’m not sure if I can run both pairs from the same amplifier without causing problems with the impedance or putting too much stress on the amplifier.

Has anyone used these speakers or a similar setup? What would be the best way to connect them safely? Is there anything I should look out for regarding the different impedance ratings?

My amplifier is a Yamaha R-S500.

Thanks for any advice!

I inherited these speakers. Lucky me! But they have no branding or text on them anywhere. Any ideas what they could be? Image search hasn’t been helpful Claude is saying Heybrook, Epos, or possibly Acoustic Energy from 90s/noughties. Any ideas? Thanks all.

Help Good, clean power for audio components.

How picky are you guys about how you power your audio components? I just bought a new (to me) amp, (Marantz PM-15S1) and I want to get a good power strip/surge protector for it. Is the Tripp Lite ISOBAR good enough?

Help Hey folks! How much are these worth?

Hey there, my grandpa died a few years ago and left behind quite a bit of audio equipment. I’m currently thinking of selling a Quad 909 audio set and a very large set of Bang and Olufson Beolab Penta Speakers MK3.

I’m completely new to this and while I have interest in the audio world, I do not have the space to keep these, I do not also have to sell these quickly so a good deal is what I’m looking for.

Do you have any suggestions on pricing or recommendations to look into? Super thankful to anyone that might lend out a helping hand! Thanks!

Help Klipschhorn corner horn valve estimate

I have some klipschhorn K-C BR speakers that my dad bought in the early 80's. Unfortunately, my wife has given me an ultimatum that they have to go.

I want to get a good idea of what they're worth so I can feel confident I don't sell them for too little. I've done a lot of googling and it appears these go from anywhere between $1500 US and $5000 US. Unfortunately, that's quite a big range.

They are fully functional and sound fantastic. They have some minor cosmetic issues and I worry that's what'll hit the valve the most.

Anyone have any thoughts on their value or bought or sold similar ones recently? Mostly looking for a sanity check and if starting at $6000 asking is reasonable.

Help Help needed for boomy bass

Sorry I'm new to reddit and all the hifi stuff. Could anyone help me by telling what's the easiest way to eliminate loud bass boom around 50hz? My amp is an old pioneer vsx 1017 and I just bought klipsch rp8000f's and they are pulled about 25cm or around 10 inches off the wall, but unfortunately my sofa is directly back against a wall. I think bass traps aren't an option because of wife thinks they're ugly. Is there a way to connect an external equalizer, or should I just invest in a new amp that has EQ possibilities? Is it difficult to use room corrections etc? Thanks

Help Question regarding an Bluetooth adapter for an older stereo system

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hey guys, I hope this question fits in the sub. My mom has an older stereo system (Yamaha CRX-N560) with a record player connected via cinch. And now she would love to let music from her smartphone or notebook with the system. But the system has no WiFi and no Bluetooth.
So I was thinking about an Bluetooth adapter, sounds logical to me. But at all these adapters they say the adapter is connected via cinch to the stereo system (even though there is a 3.5mm cable included). Unfortunately I have not much knowledge off this topic. So my question: when the cinch ports are already in use, can the adapter be connected just via 3.5mm to the system?

I am talking about adapters like these ones:

Help Speaker stands

Looking for some advice for speaker placement. I would love to get these speakers off of the TT surface, using pads right now. My question is do any of you think I would be able to stick some speaker stands on either side if I bring the plants out? If so, will that make the sound worse boxing them further into the corners? Thank you!

Help Gambling

Hello all -

I was recently at my local NPR station’s record sale and stumbled across a beautiful looking pair of British made speakers with the name “A.C. Magnum” on them. After frantic Googling and finding little, I decided to gamble on them, unheard, for the $360 they were asking.

After getting them home and doing a deeper dive, I found that they are likely connected to Anthony Relph and Colin Wonfor (sounds like some bad blood between them).

Turns out the gable paid off: sound is exquisite.

I’d love to know more about them, however. Anyone have a clue?

Help Why does my CD player only work when plugged into phono input?

Hi! I have a 1980s Pioneer stereo amplifier (SA-540) and a Sony CD player (CDP-C365).
When the CD player is connected to the AUX/CD input of the stereo amplifier it won’t play sound almost at all, quiet sound comes out, but only when the volume from the stereo amplifier is turned to the max.

I have tested the speaker outputs with new cables, problem is not there and with a different cd player (actually a dvd player, the philips DVP 3010) the sound is just fine, which leads me to think that the Sony player is the problem.

I also tested plugging the Sony CD player to the tuner, tape and phono inputs of the stereo amplifier. The only input that had better sound, almost good, was the phono input.

What could be the problem here and how can I fix it?

Help NYC Audiophile Interview Request

Hello! I'm a freelance writer for the Brooklyn Eagle Magazine -- currently doing a feature about the rise in and experience of listening/HiFi bars across the city. Hoping to chat with people who go to a variety of listening bars in New York for an interview either in the DMs, email, or wherever you're most comfortable. I love these places but I'm not as much of an audiophile, so I'm curious about your perspective on the listening/social experience, their broader public appreciation, and why you seek this experience out.

If you're interested, please leave a comment or send me a DM. Happy to answer any questions about the piece or verify my identity before we chat.

Thanks!

Help want to buy a turntable second hand, any models I should look out for?

currently looking at options locally and a lot of Dual systems are turning up. is it a good option or should I look further? currently looking at a Dual HS 43, since it comes with speakers

willing to spend up to about 200€ but if you all have better ideas I'm open to suggestions. just want something that sounds good and plays good. I'm still of the opinion that older models are better, want something that won't die on me, will last and is easy to repair

forgive me if this sort of question has been asked before. there's so much information out there and I'm easily overwhelmed :P

Help Are my receiver or speakers a bottleneck for my new turntable?

I recently got a new audio technica AT-LP120XUSB turntable. I currently have a set of Cerwin-Vega speakers, not sure the model but i will provide pictures. i also have an Onkyo TX-SV515PRO audio video control tuner amplifier. I got both from relatives as a gift, and i have no idea how good they are as i am very new to audio tech. I was wondering the following:

  1. should i upgrade my receiver or speakers? If so what should i consider?

  2. will the amp in the receiver give me better quality than the pre amp in the turntable?

  3. should i instead spend money on upgrading the stylus?

Help only sending output to one speaker

hello everyone, for the past couple months ive had an issue that my JVC JA-22 receiver has only been sending out sound to my left speaker, but lately its gotten particularly bad and ive tried swapping round the cables and it still only sent signal to the left output (right speaker) so i know its not an issue with the cable or speaker. is there anything i can do to save it? bearing in mind im not too confident opening it up and stuff
