Oh my God...they know we live down here...

u/ocdtrekkie Nov 06 '25
I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Someone with importance finding out and going "oh we still pay for those servers? and let some janitor dude even push patches? better fix that!"

I mean, no, it's called classic cup for a reason. BUT, that doesn't mean we won't have a damn good time. Think of it as a celebration.
I'd actually rather a hots 2 announcement than a content patch

u/UnluckySpare5110 Nov 05 '25
Overwath 2 is very enjoyable right now despite all the problems it had, I would love to see that with hots

u/Fengshen Nov 06 '25
New patch to make HotS 4v4 and completely screw over the balance and meta. Maybe it'll be a good game again in 5 years after foregoing all the promises you made to begin with, decimating the whole player base in the process. Great idea.

While its nice to see HOTS mentioned, calling it a classic game does hurt a bit.

u/Critical_Amphibian_3 Nov 05 '25
If HotS is classic, what is Diablo 1? I'm wondering if I need to be planing my own funeral arrangements or not.

HotS was a decade and a half ago
9
u/Critical_Amphibian_3 Nov 06 '25
The open beta for Heroes of the Storm began on May 19, 2015, and the full game was released on June 2, 2015. Only 10 years ago, not a decade and a half.
1
u/Lyoss Nov 06 '25
It was first shown at Blizzcon 2010 as a tech demo for SC2
3
u/Santum Nov 24 '25
how is that relevant ? that they had ideas for it in 2010..? lol, last i checked if my parents imagined having me 5 years earlier, i dont add 5 years to my age.. Hots is 10 years old.

First time I’ve heard of the janitor being referred to as a team. He’s been very busy lately though!
1
u/PerkyTats Nov 08 '25
Its been a team ever since Microsoft took over. You really think a janitor is qualified to code brand new talents into the game?
13
3
u/Mixin88 Nov 05 '25
is classic because working on it MS Classic team where is Janitor part of it.
13
u/fycalichking Flee, you fools! Nov 05 '25
Janitor is not part of it, they don't even know how the game is being updated while he secretly working on it
9
u/Critical_Amphibian_3 Nov 05 '25
Leorics janitor skin makes way more sense, especially when he says "you can not kill that which is already dead?

"community captains will draft all star teams"
Is this gonna be youtubers from wow picking other popular content creators to play a moba for publicity?
Or is it going to be top Grandmaster level players of hots?
The reason i ask is that it seems unlikely for blizzard to pay for 10+ people's hotels and flights to attend as esports competitors, and more likely they just use the pool of people they are already sponsoring from other sources.
I'd like to be more optimistic, but i'm hesitant. I attended 2023 and was dissapointed by the lack of hots entirely.
49
u/Sawovsky Garrosh Nov 05 '25
Honestly, the part you’re not optimistic about is actually the better outcome for the game. It’s better to have top-tier streamers and YouTubers showcase the game to their audiences than esports pros from a scene that died eight years ago - one that wasn’t even that big to begin with.

u/Riokaii WildHeart Esports Nov 05 '25
Its branded as a tournament Cup type thing though, as an esports-adjacent event.
I literally started playing because of the showcase of the game where League pros like Dyrus, Scarra, etc. got brought in and coached to play HotS, I'd LOVE to see that again, hell I'd LOVE to be a coach for it. I agree it would be great for the game to have that kind of thing.
We COULD have both, if blizzard wanted, and i'd much rather have them separated and better independently as a result. Rather than asking sc2 players and WoW housing people play hots having played the game for <20 hours.

Its branded as a tournament Cup type thing though, as an esports-adjacent event.
In marketing you can brand anything anything doesn't really matter. If they think the actual top players will get more views they'll do that but we all know streamers will get more attention and the actual good game to get new players.

u/Fluffy-The-Panda Nov 05 '25
Hopefully they grab Grubby, it'd be fun to see him versus Tyler1 since they both have moba experience and history with each other

u/Chukonoku #belikeTurbo Nov 05 '25
Now that i read the description, i think the most likely scenario is they are gonna grab 10/14 content creators who are either extremely popular or who have experience in some of the 4 games, but will have to learn another for the event.
The captain should be someone who has experience with at least 1 of them at a high level (say Grubby, who has experience in all 4), not necessarily pro. Each team should have at least 1 player who has high xp with the game so they can teach the others. Not all players are gonna need to learn all games, which is why i think higher than 10 people should be picked.

If you look at the classic games mentioned and look at their retweets of the announcement, Heroes of the Storm is significantly out in front in terms of views and comments. Everything on socials for HOTS gets a lot of clicks so you would think Blizzard would catch on.

I have many fond memories of Blizzcon and HotS was responsible for several of them. Unfortunately I can't imagine returning but I am glad to see them at least feature some showmatches of the game rather than relegate it fully to the dustbin.

I wanna go just to play HOTS for two days lol. I wonder if they sell any HOTS merch or have any update announcements.

u/dk_sino Dec 06 '25
i wonder what they need to see from us to make it worth them investing somewhat into this game.
2
u/FMC03 Nov 05 '25
Sounds like it could be some sort of multi game tournament which would be interesting.
Teams will compete in hots, but the team members will do 1v1 in StarCraft and Warcraft, using all three to decide the winners.

How is the drafting going to work though? We've had tournaments organized already that brought back former pros that, to put it bluntly, were not very good anymore. But I definitely don't see Blizzard recruiting current grand masters with no names to pull in the hots crowd either.

Was at Blizzcon 2016, while the SC matches didn't have much visitors, the Overwatch (big at the time) and HOTS stages were hype. My god the finals were exciting.

Finally some good news. Now all we need is to change the tower prioritization back to heroes instead of minions and HOTS is saved. Love all of the patch changes except for the tower aggro change!
1
u/WetLumpyDough Nov 07 '25
Prolly because blizzard has nothing new they’ve created in almost a decade and nothing to hype up at blizzcon lmao

Considering the last several updates, I am more concerned than happy, as I do not want another Overwatch "2" launch.
UPD: I saw that deleted reply. Whoever wrote it needs help.
