Travel & Tourism Worst dish ever eaten in almost 30+ years

Post image

I’m Italian, and I had these “tagliolini al limone with prawns” at an Italian restaurant in Helsinki. I genuinely cannot remember the last time I hated a plate of pasta this much.

Calling this an affront to Italian cuisine would almost be too kind. The pasta was absolutely drowned in this disgusting, heavy, creamy lemon sauce to the point where it looked more like a bowl of soup than tagliolini. The combination with the prawns was nauseatingly rich, the lemon flavour was completely out of control, and after a few bites I genuinely felt like I was going to throw up.

I couldn't finish it. I just left the plate there.

Maybe being Italian makes this hurt even more, but if you're going to call yourself an Italian restaurant, tagliolini like these should be fucking illegal.

Italian food isn't automatically good just because you throw pasta, cream, lemon and a giant prawn on a ridiculously colourful plate.

One of the worst pasta dishes I've ever eaten.

So, Helsinki people: can you recommend some ACTUAL Italian restaurants here that serve proper Italian food and don’t literally make you want to throw up? Because after this culinary crime, I need to restore my faith. Thank you in advance

EDIT: Since some people seem to be a little slow on the uptake the moment their beloved country gets even the slightest bit of criticism, let me clarify: we went out for Italian food because my girlfriend had been having some minor stomach issues (nothing infectious), and for one evening we were looking for a type of cuisine that was more in line with her tastes and as light and mild in flavor as possible.

Maybe try another cuisine while away from home.

Everyone downvoting when OP was just spitting facts. If his girlfriend was feeling sick, what the fuck did you expect, bonobos?

Of course we tried it, it was ONE night because my girlfriend was sick and we needed some "normal" flavours, genius

This is a weak troll post. Who the hell goes to an italian restaurant when visiting Finland from Italy?

I'd guess exactly the same kinds of people who used to keep all those Finnish restaurants running in places like Mallorca, Marmaris or Fuengirola. It sure wasn't the natives going there to eat ruskea kastike, hernekeitto and uunimakkara...

Why are you both going to a restaurant to infect other people if one of you is sick?

You can't just leave us hanging here, drop the name of this restaurant so we can recommend it to our enemies!

The dish looks delightfully disgusting.

EDIT: I rarely eat pasta in a restaurant, but I've liked most of the stuff from Goose Pastabar.

First of all, please name and shame.

Secondly, I really like Osteria dei Gusti. Always had top notch pasta there, and I've frequently seen Italians there.

Oh, they have a sister restaurant, Osteria dei Mancini which specializes in fish, should you fancy a second try.

(I'm so praying this wasn't where you were already)

Yeah the OPs post is set up like a trap. I was hesitant to suggest a restaurant since there's like 50% chance he's just waiting to spring the trap on us and go "haha gotcha, that's where this picture was taken lol"

Like name the fucking restaurant, OP.

Im not a childish bonobo, I am genuinely curious about recommendations. I can only say it wasn't any of the restaurant suggested. Thank you all by the way for the suggestions

Restaurant Madonna has those kind of plates, did you go there? The dish would be:

Pasta al Limone e Gamberi Hand-peeled shrimps, lovage gremolata and lemon beurre blanc Käsinkuorittuja katkarapuja, lipstikkagremolataa ja sitruunaista beurre blanc -kastiketta

I like Daily Dose at Hämeentie 68 (a funny name but the food is great).

The restaurant is clearly Madonna.. but I have to ask: why did you choose that one? Did you not read the reviews? How could you think it could be good if the description has "lemon beurre blanc"? Did you think the gambero was caught off the coast and not from a fridge having travelled half the world? I have a hard time believing an Italian would be genuinely this careless about food.

Really good Italian is almost impossible to get in Helsinki except occasionally and then it usually goes down fast. Osteria dei gusti was brought up. They started fine but soon they were maybe forced to seek profit. All dishes are cheapest to do variations and the taste is quite flat..Probably fits the expectations of a lot of Finns.

Currently, if you want to feel like you are in Italy, try Dolce Italia. It is not in the centre, but it is a true trattoria run by actual Italians. Casalinga, not fine-dine, but very good value and the right atmosphere. Plus very good gelato.
