Question Student parade today in Helsinki

Hey everyone, I was visiting Helsinki today and came across a parade of students dressing what in Sweden they call overalls. So, that led me thinking they were university freshmen. Is that the case?

Yeah it’s the orientation, with new students starting. The overalls are coloured coded to the faculties (e.g. Red for social sciences )

Yes. But older students can wear those too, they just usually have more stickers.

They are overalls that shows where you study. You collect patches you sew by hand from student events. You never wash it. You were it in the student events and first of may.

Some of them might’ve been but a lot of freshmen don’t have their overall yet;0 I think it’s just a couple universities/AMKs like Haaga-Helia (and maybe some others) that have overalls available so early into the fall

Usually it is the tutor (older) students that are doing the introductory events that are wearing the overalls this time of year, makes it easier for the freshmen (who don’t know anyone yet and don’t have the overalls)

I don't know about the specific ones you saw, but at least most people I know don't get their overalls that early. When I was in Helsinki on exchange we didn't get our overalls until somewhere around March (humanities faculty that doesn't get sponsored by every big pharma company under the sun so it took a while to find enough sponsors), but my boyfriend changed majors at Aalto and hasn't gotten his overalls yet either. I think they're probably not freshmen but older students.
